Sam learns Gene has planted evidence on a notorious armed robber, and decides to let him go. However, the crook then continues his crime spree, critically wounding a cleaner from the police station in the process. The idealistic detective begins to question whether his colleague's approach might be justified - but fears his doubts could affect his chances of returning to the 21st century
