About Kingdom of Heaven
Balian, a French blacksmith in exile from his homeland, joins a crusade to Jerusalem, where he becomes a knight and pledges to defend the city and its people. Under the rule of the progressive King Baldwin, a fragile peace between Christians and Muslims has been established in the Holy City. However, the king is crippled by leprosy, and his days are numbered. His imminent death is expected to bring with it a resugence in conflict between the rival religious factions, and it is left to Balian to try to avert the seemingly inevitable war.
