Early-life:
Stephen Dorff was born on July 29, 1973, in Atlanta, Georgia. His father is film and TV composer Steve Dorff, who worked on such movies as Every Which Way But Loose, Bronco Billy, and Honky Tonk Man. His brother Andrew is a musician, while Stephen can play the piano. He has two half sisters. His parents advised him against being an actor, but he decided to pursue his dream anyway, and began working professionally from an early age.
Career:
Dorff made his TV debut aged 12 in an episode of Diff'rent Strokes. Roles in TV movies followed. He worked steadily throughout his teens, making the transition to more adult parts in 1992's The Power of One. Two years later, the Beatles movie Backbeat really put him on the map. Since then, he's ignored big-budget productions in favour of appearing in small, often independent films. Among his career highlights are I Shot Andy Warhol, Blood and Wine, City of Industry, Blade, Cecil B DeMented and Cold Creek Manor. His recent work includes World Trade Center, Public Enemies and Somewhere.
