Early-life:
The son of actor Lloyd Bridges and his wife Dorothy, Jeffrey Leon Bridges was born on December 4, 1949, in Los Angeles, California. He has a younger sister, Lucinda, and an older brother, Beau, who also acts. Both boys appeared with their mother in the 1950 film The Company She Keeps (Jeff was just four months old at the time), and occasionally featured with their dad on his popular TV shows in the 1950s and 1960s. Jeff eventually studied acting in New York, and also spent eight years serving with the United States Coast Guard Reserve.
Career:
Bridges' first major role came in the 1971 movie The Last Picture Show, for which he garnered a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. More Oscar nominations followed for Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Starman, The Contender and True Grit; he's won once for Crazy Heart. One of his better-known roles was in the 1982 sci-fi cult classic Tron, in which he played Kevin Flynn, a video game programmer - a role he returned to in the 2010 sequel. Other major projects include the Coen Brothers' classic The Big Lebowski, as well as The Fisher King, Fearless, Jagged Edge, Iron Man and Seabiscuit. An accomplished musician, Bridges has also released three albums.
