Early-life:
Timothy Tarquin Hutton was born in Malibu, California, on August 15, 1960. His father was actor Jim Hutton. Following a bit part in the 1965 movie Never Too Late, Timothy's passion for acting bloomed at school. He made his acting breakthrough in 1978 thanks to the movies Sultan and the Rock Star, and Zuma Beach. A year later he appeared in the Emmy Award-winning TV movie Friendly Fire, as well as a string of other small-screen projects, including The Best Place to Be and Young Love, First Love.
Career:
Director Robert Redford cast him in his 1980 movie Ordinary People, and as a result Hutton became the youngest supporting actor to win an Oscar. A string of hit-and-miss projects followed, including Taps (1981), Iceman (1984), Turk 182! (1985), Made in Heaven (1987), Q and A (1990), The Dark Half (1993), French Kiss (1995) and Beautiful Girls (1996). His other film credits include The General's Daughter (1999), Secret Window (2004), Kinsey (2004), Last Holiday (2006), The Good Shepherd (2006), and The Ghost (2010). Between 2008 and 2012, he played insurance investigator Nate Ford in TV drama Leverage.
