John Nettles (Actor) .. DCI Tom Barnaby
Born: October 11, 1943 in St Austell, Cornwall
Best Known For: Playing Jim Bergerac.
Early-life: John Vivian Drummond Nettles was born on October 11, 1943, in St Austell, Cornwall. He was adopted at birth by a carpenter and his wife, who was a cleaner. John later discovered his biological mother was an unmarried Irish nurse who died of tuberculosis at the age of 28. Despite these humble beginnings, he won a scholarship to study philosophy and history at Southampton University. He trained to be a teacher, but drifted into acting after appearing in a touring version of the play Camus during his time at university.
Career: While appearing in amateur drama productions, Nettles was spotted by an agent who arranged work for him at the Royal Court Theatre. He made his debut as a standard bearer in Macbeth, opening doors for Alec Guinness. His first movie was The Red, White and Black in 1970. His big break came in 1972's A World At War, followed by a four-year stint in The Liver Birds. Nettles became a household name thanks to Bergerac, which ran for 10 years until 1991. TV projects since include Romeo And Juliet, The Hound of the Baskervilles and Midsomer Murders. He has also provided the narration for such programmes as Airport and The Hunt.

Trivia: Nettles received an OBE in 2010.

Born: March 28, 1960 in Hanover, West Germany
Best Known For: Playing Rimmer in Red Dwarf.
Early-life: Christopher Jonathan Brown was born on March 28, 1960, in Hanover, West Germany. The son of a Major General, he spent most of his early life in Northern Ireland. He went to public school in Belfast, and started a business course at Brighton Polytechnic, before dropping out. Early jobs included collecting trolleys from a supermarket car park, working as a shipping import/export clerk and an estate agent.
Career: Barrie worked at Harrods, but was sacked for impersonating a colleague on the phone. After realising he had a talent for mimicry, he landed the job of providing the voices for Prince Charles, David Coleman and Ronald Reagan on Spitting Image. He went for the part of loveable curry-eating slob Lister in Red Dwarf, but was cast as the hologram Rimmer. He also developed a cult following in BBC One comedy The Brittas Empire, in which played the regimented manager of a leisure centre. After appearing in 2001 blockbuster, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, he featured in Lara Croft and The Cradle of Life, Back in Business and Midsomer Murders. He has also fronted a number of documentary series, including Chris Barrie's Massive Engines and Chris Barrie's Massive Machines.

Career: She spent many years in the theatre, but believes that people really began taking notice of her when she appeared in the West End play Stepping Out, for which she won a prestigious Olivier Award. TV work soon followed as she landed roles in Keeping Up Appearances, Dangerfield and Coronation Street, before starring alongside Derek Jacobi and Ian McKellen in the sitcom Vicious, which began in 2013. She's continued to appear on stage, winning a second Olivier in 2002 for Humble Boy at the National Theatre. She's also cropped up in films including Run for Your Wife and Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie.
Quote: On the differences between acting on stage and on camera: "You know more what you are doing in theatre, and your bit isn't ever going to be cut out and left on the floor."
Trivia: Marcia says that if she hadn't succeeded in becoming an actress, she would have been a gardener.
Best Known For: Her role in the sitcom Vicious.
Early-life: Marcia was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, in 1943 and says she first realised she wanted to be an actress at the age of three _ she isn't sure what inspired her, but thinks it may have been the radio. She trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, graduating in 1963, and initially worked in repertory theatre. Her first professional job was as an assistant stage manager in David Copperfield in Salisbury.
