David Jason (Actor) .. Insp Jack Frost

Best Known For: His role as Del-Boy in Only Fools and Horses.

Early-life: Born David John White in Finchley, north London, on February 2, 1940, the son of a cleaner and a porter. As a child, he blossomed after appearing in a school play, but he followed his father's wishes and became an electrician. He remained a member of an amateur theatre group until a local newspaper critic advised him he had real talent and should turn professional. He signed up for drama school and joined actors' union Equity, only to be told they already had a David White on their books.

Career: After stints in local theatre, Jason graduated to TV, joining Michael Palin, Eric Idle and Terry Jones for Do Not Adjust Your Set in 1967. In the early 1970s, he appeared in the films White Cargo and Under Milk Wood and played the lead in TV comedy A Sharp Intake of Breath, before being cast opposite Ronnie Barker in the popular sitcom Open All Hours. He worked with the comedian again in 1975 in Porridge when he played old man Blanco, a performance that prompted producers to invite him to audition for the role of Grandad in Only Fools and Horses in 1981. The show's makers decided to cast him as Del-Boy instead after noticing his obvious chemistry with on-screen brother Nicholas Lyndhurst. It turned him into a household name. In the 1980s, he also provided the voices for animated children's favourites, including Danger Mouse and Count Duckula. Jason's huge success continued in the 1990s with The Darling Buds of May and A Touch of Frost. Even though he retired from the role of Det Insp Jack Frost in 2008, after playing the character for 16 years, he claimed to have no plans to retire himself from acting. His recent work includes The Royal Bodyguard and Still Open All Hours.

Quote: 'I've never 'felt my age', whatever that means. I think there are a lot of people who feel 22 when in fact they're 62, and there are a lot of youngsters who behave as if they were four times their age. It's an attitude of mind, isn't it?'

Trivia: He was knighted by the Queen in December 2005.

Best Known For: A string of TV roles.

Early-life: Adrian was born in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, on August 1, 1958. The eldest of seven siblings, he was educated by the Presentation Brothers before attending the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and embarking on a career in stage and screen.

Career: Dunbar has appeared in such notable films as My Left Foot (1989), Hear My Song (1991), The Crying Game (1992) and The General (1998). He has also had leading roles in the films Widows' Peak (1994), Richard III (1995) and Triggermen (2002). On television, he starred in the first episode of Cracker, and has been in many British productions, including Tough Love, Inspector Morse, A Touch of Frost, Murphy's Law, Murder in Mind and Ashes to Ashes. His recent credits include Death in Paradise, Line of Duty, A Touch of Cloth, and Walter. He has many stage credits to his name.

Quote: 'My big break was getting into drama school in London and getting out of Northern Ireland. If that hadn't happened, I wouldn't be here today.'

Trivia: In 2009, he received an honorary degree from the University of Ulster.

Born: August 20, 1956 in Bristol

Best Known For: Peak Practice.

Early-life: Simon was born in Bristol on August 20, 1956. He went on to attend Manchester Metropolitan University and Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He was also a member of the National Youth Theatre. He made his TV debut in 1973 in an edition of Jackanory Playhouse.

Career: Shepherd is perhaps best known for playing Dr Will Preston in ITV drama Peak Practice, a role he played between 1993 and 2002. His other TV credits include guest appearances in Chancer, Casualty, Ruth Rendell Mysteries, Heartbeat, A Touch of Frost, Doctors, Holby City and Death in Paradise. He is also a regular on the stage, having performed in the likes of Betrayal, The Seagull, Art, and The Secret Rapture.

Quote: 'I've been proud of a lot of things with my children, but never as proud as when my wife Alex won her Oscar.'

Trivia: Shepherd supports Barnardos and Save the Children Fund charities.

Adam James (Actor) .. Gregory Salmond

Born: September 09, 1972 in United Kingdom

Best Known For: Playing Cleveland O. Petty in Band of Brothers.

Early-life: Born September 9, 1972 in the United Kingdom to actress Polly James. Adam trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama alongside Dominic West and Daniel Evans. He graduated in 1996.

Career: After graduating, James started playing small roles in various TV series, including The Bill, Let Them Eat Cake and The 10th Kingdom, as well as such TV films as Sharpe's Regiment (1996). In 2001, he came to prominence in TV series Band of Brothers. He has made guest appearances in Holby City and he also played Pete Guildford for 17 episodes of Casualty in 2005. His other notable TV credits include Doctor Who, Extras, Ashes to Ashes and Secret Diary of a Call Girl. He has also appeared in a number of plays, such as The Pride, King Lear and Much Ado About Nothing. He played the Prime Minister in a production of King Charles III that was performed in the West End and on Broadway. James also played the Prime Minister in the TV version of King Charles III.

Quote: 'In my experience the writing is often better in theatre than in TV, so inevitably I am drawn there more.'

Trivia: In 2010, he won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Featured Actor.

Best Known For: Playing the title character in Eve.

Early-life: Born on April 16, 1995 in London. Poppy's first TV appearance was in an episode of Wilhelmina in 2001. She also appeared in an episode of Helen West in 2002. Between 2002 and 2007, Poppy appeared in a number of stage productions. Poppy also studied photography and film studies at college.

Career: Friar's first big TV role was in the UK version of the animated series Little Einsteins, where she played the character June from 2005 until 2009. She also played the character in the film Little Einsteins: Our Big Huge Adventure. In 2008, she appeared in the TV film adaptation of Jacqueline Wilson's Dustbin Baby. In 2010, she starred in Dead Gorgeous as Sophie and also made appearances in The Bill and A Touch of Frost. For two years, Friar starred in Mr Selfridge as Rosalie Selfridge. She began playing the title character in CBBC's science fiction series Eve in 2015. More recently, she played Missy in the school drama Ackley Bridge.

Trivia: She was nominated for the BAFTA Children's Award for Best Performer, in 2015, for her work in Eve.
