Fit for Murder

DCI Tom Barnaby reluctantly joins wife Joyce on a spa weekend at Swavely Manor, a country house offering treatments to soothe the mind and body. However, as he attempts to unwind, a woman is found dead in a flotation chamber and he promptly abandons his therapy to investigate - but the body count soon rises. The detective eventually wraps up the case, but it proves to be his last as he makes a big decision about his future. John Nettles' final appearance in the long-running series, with guest stars Ronni Ancona, Geraldine James and Lesley Manville

Early-life:
John Vivian Drummond Nettles was born on October 11, 1943, in St Austell, Cornwall. He was adopted at birth by a carpenter and his wife, who was a cleaner. John later discovered his biological mother was an unmarried Irish nurse who died of tuberculosis at the age of 28. Despite these humble beginnings, he won a scholarship to study philosophy and history at Southampton University. He trained to be a teacher, but drifted into acting after appearing in a touring version of the play Camus during his time at university.
Career:
While appearing in amateur drama productions, Nettles was spotted by an agent who arranged work for him at the Royal Court Theatre. He made his debut as a standard bearer in Macbeth, opening doors for Alec Guinness. His first movie was The Red, White and Black in 1970. His big break came in 1972's A World At War, followed by a four-year stint in The Liver Birds. Nettles became a household name thanks to Bergerac, which ran for 10 years until 1991. TV projects since include Romeo And Juliet, The Hound of the Baskervilles and Midsomer Murders. He has also provided the narration for such programmes as Airport and The Hunt.

Early-life:
Born in Doncaster in 1961. His dad drove a bread delivery van and his mum was an assistant supermarket manager, although they both also performed on the club circuit. Neil credits his own love of acting to a teacher who forced him to read aloud in an assembly _ it was supposed to be a punishment for misbehaving in class, but Neil found he actually enjoyed it. He went to appear in school plays, before studying drama at Rada.
Career:
Neil made his film debut in 1987 with an uncredited role in Prick Up Your Ears, and went on to appear in London's Burning on TV the following year. He's worked pretty steadily since then in a wide range of TV shows, although he admits he's most frequently cast as a cop _ he's starred in Inspector Morse, Out of the Blue, Between the Lines, Messiah and Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking. Last year it was announced that he would be taking on his most high-profile police role to date when he took over from John Nettles as the star of Midsomer Murders. He has also starred alongside Caroline Quentin in the sitcom Life of Riley.

Early-life:
Born on December 2, 1967 in Singapore and raised in Hong Kong. Jason trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art before attending the Royal Shakespeare Company. Here, he worked with director Trevor Nunn in Measure for Measure and The Blue Angel and with director Adrian Noble in Macbeth.
Career:
Since his days with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Durr has made a number of TV appearances in such shows as Inspector Morse and A Dark Adapted Eye and in television films like Gawain and the Green Knight (1991) and Sharpe's Battle (1995). He landed the role of policeman Mike Bradley in the TV series Heartbeat in 1997 and played the character until 2003. His other TV credits include Above Suspicion, Lewis and New Tricks. Durr also played the lead role in Down Dog (2014). More recently, he has played David Hide in Casualty.

Early-life:
Lesley was born in Brighton on March 12, 1956. She trained as a soprano singer from the age of eight and went on to secure a place at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. She made her professional stage debut in the 1972 West End musical I and Albert and had a recurring role on Emmerdale Farm in the mid-1970s, playing Rosemary Kendall.
Career:
A frequent collaborator with Mike Leigh, Manville has appeared in a number of his films, including Secrets & Lies (1996), Topsy-Turvy (1999), All or Nothing (2002), Vera Drake (2004), Another Year (2010) and Mr Turner (2014). In 2011, she starred in Mike Leigh's play Grief at the National Theatre. Her other stage roles include His Dark Materials, The Alchemist, All About My Mother, Her Naked Skin, Six Degrees of Separation, and Ghosts, for which she won an Olivier Award. On the small screen, Manville has starred in David Copperfield, The Cazalets, North & South, and Cranford. More recently, she has appeared in Mayday, Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond, and River.

Early-life:
Kimberley Nixon was born in Bristol on September 24, 1985 but she was raised with her six brothers in Pontypridd. She went on to train at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.
Career:
Nixon's first break came in 2007 when she played Sophy Hutton in BBC period drama Cranford. Supporting roles followed a year later on the big screen in Wild Child (2008), Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging (2008) and Easy Virtue (2008). She played one of the leads opposite Rupert Grint in Cherrybomb (2009) and starred in Black Death (2010). More recently, she has enjoyed success on the small screen in Fresh Meat, Kidnap and Ransom and Hebburn.
