Julia McKenzie (Actor) .. Miss Marple

Born: February 17, 1941 in Enfield

Best Known For: Fresh Fields and Miss Marple.

Early-life: Julia Kathleen McKenzie was born on February 17, 1941 in Enfield to Kathleen and Albion. She was all set to begin training to become a French teacher when she landed a scholarship to study opera. After graduating from the Guildhall School of Music, she toured in operettas and musical comedies for a number of years before landing a role in 1969 in the London production of Mame.

Career: In the early 1970s, McKenzie took over one of the leading roles in Stephen Sondheim's Company. And so began a long association with Sondheim's work. Her big break came in the mid-1970s in the musical review Side by Side by Sondheim. It was a big success in London and New York. During the 1980s, McKenzie won an Olivier Award for her portrayal of Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls at the National Theatre. McKenzie has also worked extensively on TV, notably in Fresh Fields and its spin-off French Fields, Blott on the Landscape and Cranford. More recently, she has played the title roles in ITV drama Marple and one-off BBC children's drama Gangsta Granny.

Born: April 18, 1986 in Chester, Cheshire

Best Known For: Playing Prince Albert in Victoria.

Early-life: Born on April 18, 1986 in Chester, Cheshire. Tom attended Upton-by-Chester High School and was a member of the Chester Youth Theatre and the Jigsaw Music Theatre Company. He attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and graduated in 2008 with a degree in acting.

Career: In 2009, Hughes played Dr Harry Ingrams in Casualty 1909 and Jonty Millington in Trinity. The next year, he appeared in the films Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll and Cemetery Junction. Following that, he played Nick Slade in Silk and had a role in TV film Page Eight (2011). Since then, he has appeared in the films About Time (2013), I Am Soldier (2014) and London Town (2016), as well as an episode of Agatha Christie's Marple. He has also starred in such TV series as The Game, Victoria and Paula.

Trivia: He can play guitar and was previously in the bands Safehouse and Quaintways.

Best Known For: Playing Mel in EastEnders.

Early-life: Tamzin Outhwaite was born on November 5, 1970, in Ilford, Essex. Her mother is Italian. She discovered her love of performing at a young age and would put on plays with her two younger brothers. She became involved with local amateur dramatics in her teens and admits that her schoolwork suffered, although she always did well in drama. After taking her O-levels at 16, Outhwaite signed up for a three-year acting course at the London Studio Centre, where she was voted Most Outstanding All-Rounder.

Career: Outhwaite took small parts in various West End productions and also appeared on TV in The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Her big break came in 1997, when dramatist Alan Ayckbourn spotted her in the chorus of a musical and offered her the lead role in his play Absent Friends. She then played the part of Melanie Healy in EastEnders for three years. Since leaving Walford, she has starred in the dramas Red Cap and Final Demand, and won rave reviews for her performance as a single mum in the improvised drama Out of Control. Other work includes an appearance in Fast Freddie, The Widow and Me, Doctor Who and Marple. She has also appeared on the stage in revivals of Boeing Boeing and Sweet Charity, and is the lead actress in New Tricks.

Born: October 25, 1955 in Durban, South Africa

Best Known For: Being the glamorous one in Dempsey and Makepeace.

Early-life: Born Glynis van der Reit on October 25, 1955, in Durban, South Africa. Aged five, following her parents' divorce, she moved to Johannesburg. Inspired by Hayley Mills' performance in The Parent Trap, she decided to become an actress. In her teens, she joined a speech and drama group and was so inspired by a tutor that she read Shakespeare's entire works in two weeks. Following her mother's death, she moved to London and studied at Mountview Theatre School. Glynis landed her first job at Chelmsford Rep.

Career: In the late 1970s, Glynis appeared in TV projects such as Terror, Play of the Month and Yesterday's Hero. In the early 1980s, The Sandbaggers, A Fine Romance and Blake's 7 boosted her profile. She landed the role that made her name in 1985 - Sgt Harriet Makepeace in Anglo-American hit Dempsey and Makepeace. She has since featured in Tales of the Unexpected, Babes in the Wood, The Bill, Doctors, Night & Day, Family Affairs, Emmerdale and EastEnders. Stage work has included Once in a Lifetime, Hamlet, Macbeth, Killing Time and The Graduate. In August 2013, she teamed up with her husband, actor Michael Brandon, for ITV's dancing reality series Stepping Out.

Quote: On obsessive fans: 'I had a couple of mystery admirers at drama school. One actually asked the principal for my hand in marriage.'

Trivia: She met Michael Brandon on the set of Dempsey and Makepeace. They wed in 1989 and have a son, Alexander, born in 1992.

Hugh Dennis (Actor) .. Dr Shaw

Born: February 13, 1962 in Kettering

Best Known For: His regular slot on Mock the Week and The Now Show on Radio 4.

Early-life: Peter Hugh Dennis was born in Kettering on February 13, 1962. His father was Bishop of Saint Edmundsbury and Ipswich. Hugh read geography at Cambridge, where he joined the famous Footlights and met future comedy partner Steve Punt. After graduating, he worked at Unilever for six years. Hugh and Steve worked the comedy circuit, including London's Comedy Store. There, they were spotted by Jasper Carrott, who offered the pair a slot on his show Carrott Confidential.

Career: Punt and Dennis moved on to work on The Mary Whitehouse Experience, alongside Rob Newman and David Baddiel, before branching out into their own radio series, It's Been A Bad Week and the hugely popular The Now Show. Over the years, Dennis has appeared in a string of comedy shows, including The Imaginatively Titled Punt and Dennis Show, Mock the Week and Have I Got News For You. As well as keeping busy with plenty of voice-over work, Dennis is also an accomplished actor. His CV boasts roles in My Hero and the popular sitcom Outnumbered. He has been involved with The Now Show on Radio 4 since 1998.

Trivia: Away from performing, in 2007, Dennis took part in a mountain stage of the Tour de France.
