Neil Dudgeon (Actor) .. DCI John Barnaby

Born: January 01, 1961 in Doncaster

Best Known For: Being the new Barnaby in Midsomer Murders.

Early-life: Born in Doncaster in 1961. His dad drove a bread delivery van and his mum was an assistant supermarket manager, although they both also performed on the club circuit. Neil credits his own love of acting to a teacher who forced him to read aloud in an assembly _ it was supposed to be a punishment for misbehaving in class, but Neil found he actually enjoyed it. He went to appear in school plays, before studying drama at Rada.

Career: Neil made his film debut in 1987 with an uncredited role in Prick Up Your Ears, and went on to appear in London's Burning on TV the following year. He's worked pretty steadily since then in a wide range of TV shows, although he admits he's most frequently cast as a cop _ he's starred in Inspector Morse, Out of the Blue, Between the Lines, Messiah and Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking. Last year it was announced that he would be taking on his most high-profile police role to date when he took over from John Nettles as the star of Midsomer Murders. He has also starred alongside Caroline Quentin in the sitcom Life of Riley.

Trivia: He has starred in a number of dramas on Radio 3 and Radio 4.

Best Known For: The Royal Today, Heartbeat and Midsomer Murders.

Early-life: Fiona Jane Dolman was born in Findhorn, Moray, on January 1, 1970 to Rosemary and Gordon. She is the youngest daughter of four children. Her father worked in the RAF and he moved his family to Gibraltar when Fiona was 15. In 1993, she made her TV acting debut in Crime Story.

Career: Roles followed for Dolman on the small screen in Strike Force, A Touch of Frost, The Knock and Ultraviolet. In 1998, she joined the cast of Heartbeat playing Jackie Lambert. She went on to have a recurring role in The Royal Today. In 2011, she began playing Sarah Barnaby alongside Neil Dudgeon in Midsomer Murders.

Quote: On working with the Barnaby's dog on Midsomer Murders: 'We have sausages strapped to bags and in pockets so the dog follows you around.'

Trivia: At the age of 16 and 17 years, Dolman won awards at the Gibraltar RAF ladies windsurfing championships.

Elaine Paige (Actor) .. Sylvia Reynolds

Born: March 05, 1948 in London.

Best Known For: A string of West End and Broadway musicals.

Early-life: Born Elaine Jill Bickerstaff in London on March 5, 1948. Her father was an estate agent and her mother a milliner. Elaine's original ambition was to become a professional tennis player, but it was after listening to the film soundtrack of West Side Story as a teenager that evoked her desire for a career in musical theatre. She was a member of her school choir and her first stage role was playing Susanna in a school production of The Marriage of Figaro. She went on to attend the Aida Foster Theatre School. After graduating, her first job was modelling children's clothing.

Career: Paige's first professional stage appearance was the role of a Chinese urchin in the musical The Roar of the Greasepaint - the Smell of the Crowd in 1964. At the age of 20, she made her West End debut in Hair. During the 1970s, she played roles in a number of musicals, including Jesus Christ Superstar, Grease, Billy and The Boyfriend. Her big break came when she was offered the title role of Eva Peron in the first stage production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita. She played the role for 20 months between 1978 and 1980 and her performance won her an Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Musical. She went on to achieve success in Cats, Chess, Anything Goes, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Sunset Boulevard, The King and I and Follies. She has also released a number of albums and since 2004, she has hosted her own Radio 2 show called Elaine Paige on Sunday. In December 2013, she was a contestant on the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special.

Trivia: Paige has acted in a number of TV shows, notably in an episode of Agatha Christie's Marple. Her signature song is Memory from Cats.

Born: August 26, 1950 in Birmingham

Best Known For: A string of TV, stage and films roles.

Early-life: Annette was born in Birmingham on August 26, 1950. She trained at the East 15 Acting School in London. In 1975, she made her TV debut as a tap dancing pupil in The Naked Civil Servant. Her next project was the film Jabberwocky (1977).

Career: During a long and prolific acting career, Badland has made appearances in a number of popular TV shows, including Shoestring, The Gentle Touch, Minder, Bergerac, All Creatures Great and Small, Making Out, Love Hurts, Outside Edge, and The Bill. Her film credits include The Grotesque (1995), Little Voice (1998), Beautiful People (1999) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005). More recently, she has starred in Doctor Who, All the Small Things, You, Me & Them, Man Down, Father Brown, Wizards vs Aliens, and Outlander. In 2014, she joined the cast of EastEnders, playing Babe Smith.

Trivia: Badland was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award with her fellow cast members for Little Voice.

Best Known For: Coronation Street and Cutting It.

Early-life: Angela Mellissa Griffin was born in Leeds on July 19, 1976. She was brought up by her mum and stepfather on a council estate after her bus conductor father left home when the actress was four. She has two brothers. Angela began acting in youth groups while in her teens, where she was spotted by a talent scout. She had early roles in children's series Under the Bedclothes and Just Us. She was academic at school and had been expected to continue with her education, but after gaining nine GCSEs, decided to concentrate on acting.

Career: Following a brief appearance in Emmerdale as a holiday village guest, Griffin landed the role of hairdresser Fiona Middleton in Coronation Street in 1992. She stayed with the soap for six years. She went on to join the cast of Holby City, which she quit after three years. Other acclaimed roles have come in BBC drama Babyfather, Cutting It and Down to Earth. She has also made a guest appearance in gritty crime drama Waking The Dead and presented The Ethnic Multicultural Media Awards. Other work includes two stints in Waterloo Road, her own chat show and Sky's Mount Pleasant. She joined the cast of Lewis in 2014. She has also set up her own production company.

Trivia: Griffin voices Amy the vet in children's TV show Postman Pat.

Best Known For: Cutting It and Emmerdale.

Early-life: Born on November 2, 1968, in Wanstead, Essex. Jason developed a passion for art, writing and acting from an early age. However, his brother Simon had dropped out of the acting profession, so when arts graduate Jason later expressed an interest in the same career, his parents were worried he was making the wrong move, but eventually backed him. His dad designed the posters for a one-man show, and his mum used to pretend to be his agent to get him bookings. Merrells also cut hair as a student, little knowing it would come in handy for a later role.

Career: Became a familiar face in 1994 as Matt Hawley in Casualty, but quit after three years in the role. He went on to appear in episodes of Thief Takers, The Bill, Fat Friends, Queer as Folk and Clocking Off. However, it was as Gavin Ferraday in BBC One drama Cutting It that he sent pulses racing. His student days snipping hair were boosted by five days' intensive training. He had the lead role in short-lived medical drama Sweet Medicine, before making appearances in Where the Heart Is and Murder City. Between 2006 and 2008 he played headmaster Jack Rimmer in Waterloo Road. In 2010, he made his debut in Emmerdale, playing Declan Macey.

Quote: 'Love scenes are quite a difficult technical exercise, but they're also slightly hysterical.'

Trivia: He has directed episodes of River City for BBC Scotland.
