Best Known For: Starring in Rev and Balamory
Early-life: Miles was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1979, but spent most of his childhood in London. His father was a minister in the United Reform Church, and it initially looked as if Miles was going to follow in his footsteps when he studied Divinity at the University of Edinburgh. However, he combined his studies _ and a job as a trainee chaplain in the local psychiatric hospital _ with performing as a stand-up comedian.
Career: His stand-up career started to take off _ he won the So You Think You're Funny? competition in 2001 and two years later was nominated for the Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2002, he also won over a younger audience when he was cast as Archie the inventor in the children's TV series Balamory, which ran for three years. Since then, he's gone on to appear in acclaimed sitcoms such as The Thick Of It and Rev, and has cropped up on numerous panel shows. He's also appeared in films ranging from Johnny English Reborn to Grimsby and The Legend of Tarzan, and took over from Sandi Toksvig as the host of Radio 4's The News Quiz.
Quote: On being typecast as polite, repressed characters: "I was moaning about this the other day to a friend and he said: 'What are you expecting to play - a Mexican drug lord?'"
Trivia: Miles starred as the actor David Tomlinson, who is probably best know for his role in Mary Poppins, in the one-man play The Life I Lead. He took on the project after numerous people _ including Tomlinson's eldest son _ remarked on the similarities between them.

Best Known For: The Fast Show.
Early-life: Born on May 17, 1958, in Cardiff. He spent his first four years in the Rhondda Valley before his family moved to Enfield in north London. His father worked for the coal board, his mother however was an opera singer. He was a punk while a student at the University of East Anglia, where he met Charlie Higson, but dropped out after a year and moved back to London. He worked for Hackney Council and then became a plasterer.
Career: Whitehouse and Higson later moved in together on a London housing estate where they met Harry Enfield. When the latter's comedy character Stavros took off in the late 1980s, the pair were asked to write for him. Whitehouse also wrote for Vic Reeves, and took inspiration for other characters from the people he worked with in the building trade. He and Higson later devised the award-winning Fast Show. Since then he's been dubbed the world's greatest actor by friend and fan Johnny Depp. Other projects include Jumpers for Goalposts, Happiness, Help, Kevin and Perry Go Large, Harry and Paul, and Bellamy's People.

Best Known For: His double-act with Stephen Fry
Early-life: Born James Hugh Calum Laurie on June 11, 1959, in Oxford, the youngest of a doctor's four children; his father was also a gold medal-winning rower at the 1948 Olympics. After attending Eton, Hugh followed him into the sport, competing for England and in the Boat Race while at Cambridge, where he studied archaeology and anthropology. While president of the university's Footlights entertainment group, he met Stephen Fry. After touring Australia with their revue The Cellar Tapes, they teamed up professionally.
Career: Fry and Laurie's stage success led to the TV sketch show Alfresco, which also featured Emma Thompson, Ben Elton and Robbie Coltrane. In 1987, Elton cast him in sitcom Blackadder the Third as amiable idiot George. A Bit of Fry and Laurie, and Jeeves and Wooster cemented his reputation as one of the UK's brightest comedy talents. He appeared with several celebrity pals in the movies Peter's Friends, Maybe Baby, and Sense and Sensibility. Other projects include 101 Dalmatians, The Man in the Iron Mask, Stuart Little and its sequel, the Flight of the Phoenix remake and TV series Fortysomething. His novel, The Gun Seller, was also a hit. His award-winning role in House turned him into an international star. Since it ended in 2012, Laurie has largely concentrated on music.
