John Nettles (Actor) .. DCI Tom Barnaby
Born: October 11, 1943 in St Austell, Cornwall
Best Known For: Playing Jim Bergerac.
Early-life: John Vivian Drummond Nettles was born on October 11, 1943, in St Austell, Cornwall. He was adopted at birth by a carpenter and his wife, who was a cleaner. John later discovered his biological mother was an unmarried Irish nurse who died of tuberculosis at the age of 28. Despite these humble beginnings, he won a scholarship to study philosophy and history at Southampton University. He trained to be a teacher, but drifted into acting after appearing in a touring version of the play Camus during his time at university.
Career: While appearing in amateur drama productions, Nettles was spotted by an agent who arranged work for him at the Royal Court Theatre. He made his debut as a standard bearer in Macbeth, opening doors for Alec Guinness. His first movie was The Red, White and Black in 1970. His big break came in 1972's A World At War, followed by a four-year stint in The Liver Birds. Nettles became a household name thanks to Bergerac, which ran for 10 years until 1991. TV projects since include Romeo And Juliet, The Hound of the Baskervilles and Midsomer Murders. He has also provided the narration for such programmes as Airport and The Hunt.

Best Known For: The Manageress and a series of coffee adverts.
Early-life: Cherie Mary Lunghi was born on April 4, 1952, in Nottingham, the daughter of an Italian and his English wife. She was raised in London by her mother and her aunts after her father returned to Italy. Cherie began acting as a child on radio and in TV and eventually studied at Homerton College, Cambridge. Her acting training came at the Arts Educational School and the Central School of Speech and Drama. She has also been keen on dancing, aerobics, horse-riding, painting and playing the piano from an early age.
Career: Lunghi started out on stage, but made her TV debut in a 1968 episode of the BBC's classic Sherlock Holmes series. She's worked steadily ever since on the small and big screens, cropping up in the likes of Edward & Mrs Simpson, Excalibur, Tales of the Unexpected, The Monocled Mutineer, The Mission, and Ellis Island. However, it was popular footballing drama The Manageress which made her a major TV star in 1989. Since then, Lunghi has appeared in the likes of The Buccaneers, A Question of Guilt, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Jack and Sarah, EastEnders, Cutting It, Midsomer Murders and Casualty 1906. She was a Strictly Come Dancing contestant in 2008.

Best Known For: Playing Superman in Man of Steel.
Early-life: Henry William Dalgliesh Cavill was born in Jersey on May 5, 1983 to Marianne and Colin. He has four brothers. He was interested in acting from an early age and starred in a number of school productions. He made his film debut in Laguna (2001) and followed this up with The Count of Monte Cristo (2002).
Career: TV roles followed in The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Goodbye, Mr Chips and Midsomer Murders. His first break came in 2007, when he landed the lead role as Charles Brandon in American drama The Tudors, a part he played in 38 episodes. Cavill had originally been set to play Superman in a project abandoned by McG and he came close to landing the role of James Bond in 2005. In 2013, he finally got to play Superman on the big screen in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. His other film credits include Stardust (2007), Whatever Works (2009), Immortals (2011) and The Cold Light of Day (2012).
