John Nettles (Actor) .. DCI Tom Barnaby
Born: October 11, 1943 in St Austell, Cornwall
Best Known For: Playing Jim Bergerac.
Early-life: John Vivian Drummond Nettles was born on October 11, 1943, in St Austell, Cornwall. He was adopted at birth by a carpenter and his wife, who was a cleaner. John later discovered his biological mother was an unmarried Irish nurse who died of tuberculosis at the age of 28. Despite these humble beginnings, he won a scholarship to study philosophy and history at Southampton University. He trained to be a teacher, but drifted into acting after appearing in a touring version of the play Camus during his time at university.
Career: While appearing in amateur drama productions, Nettles was spotted by an agent who arranged work for him at the Royal Court Theatre. He made his debut as a standard bearer in Macbeth, opening doors for Alec Guinness. His first movie was The Red, White and Black in 1970. His big break came in 1972's A World At War, followed by a four-year stint in The Liver Birds. Nettles became a household name thanks to Bergerac, which ran for 10 years until 1991. TV projects since include Romeo And Juliet, The Hound of the Baskervilles and Midsomer Murders. He has also provided the narration for such programmes as Airport and The Hunt.

Best Known For: Playing Henrik Hanssen in Holby City.
Early-life: Born on October 17, 1960 in London. Guy attended Homefield School and later Brockenhurst College, where he studied for his A-Levels. Between 1979 and 1981, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
Career: Henry landed the role of Sherlock Holmes in ITV's Young Sherlock Holmes series in 1982. Since then, he has appeared in such TV series as Peak Practice, Doctors, Rome and Extras. His most notable TV role is as Henrik Hanssen in Holby City. Henry has also made a number of appearances in films, such as V for Vendetta (2005), Starter for 10 (2006) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 (2010) and Part 2 (2011). He provided the physical and vocal performance for Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), while CGI special effects were used to recreate the likeness of the late Peter Cushing. Besides TV and film, Henry has done a lot of theatre work, including with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Quote: On playing Grand Moff Tarkin: 'It's very daunting, actually, to try and be a famous character in the original film. And also to emulate an actor that I myself admire.'
Trivia: He enjoys driving coaches, which he learned to drive during a two-year break from Holby City.

Josette Simon (Actor) .. Samantha Flint
Best Known For: Cry Freedom and Blakes 7.
Early-life: Josette Patricia Simon was born in Leicester in 1960, the youngest of four children. She trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. In 1980, she made her TV debut in an episode of the sitcom The Cuckoo Waltz, but she made a big impact in another show that year, sci-fi drama Blakes 7, playing Dayna Mellanby.
Career: Simon made her film debut in Cry Freedom (1987). A year later, she had a lead role in Milk and Honey. In 1992, she starred alongside Brenda Fricker in the TV movie Seekers. Her TV work includes appearances in Kavanagh QC, Dalziel and Pascoe, Lewis, The Bill, Skins, Minder, Casualty and Silent Witness. More recently, she has starred in New Tricks, Merlin, Death in Paradise and Suspects. On the stage, she has performed frequently with the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Quote: On Blakes 7: 'It was such a massive cult series. I still get letters about it now.'
Trivia: In 1995, Simon received an honorary Master of Arts degree from the University of Leicester. She was awarded an OBE for services to drama in 2000.
Thelma Barlow (Actor) .. Mrs Beverley
Born: June 19, 1929 in Middlesbrough
Best Known For: Playing dithering Mavis in Coronation Street.
Early-life: Born Thelma Pigott in Middlesbrough in 1929, she was raised in Huddersfield by her mother Margaret. Her dad, a cabinet maker, died of pneumonia five weeks before her birth. Thelma discovered her love of acting at an early age and put on plays with her older sister, Veda. After leaving school, she studied shorthand and typing at Huddersfield Technical College, and then worked as a secretary for eight years. During this time, she continued to act with the college's amateur dramatics group, until one of the teachers recommended she turn professional.
Career: Barlow joined The Joan Littlewood Theatre group and worked in repertory companies. One of her earliest roles was in The Way of the World, co-starring opposite her future on-screen husband, Peter Baldwin. In 1971, she was offered the role of Mavis in Coronation Street. The character was intended to appear in one episode, but ended up staying for 26 years. Since quitting the soap in 1997, Barlow has starred in Murder Most Horrid, David Copperfield, dinnerladies, Stig of the Dump and Marple. She made her big-screen debut in 2005 in Mrs Henderson Presents, which led to the veteran actress being nominated for the Most Promising Newcomer gong at the British Independent Film Awards.
