Early-life:
Born in San Diego, California, on December 3, 1973, to aspiring teenage actress Lauralei Combs. In 1980, she and her mother moved to New York to pursue their careers. Holly studied at the city's Professional Children's School, and soon began getting jobs in commercials. Her first big role came at the age of 12, when she starred in Walls of Glass alongside her mother and a host of famous faces, including Olympia Dukakis.
Career:
More roles followed in the movies Sweet Heart Dance, New York Stories and Born on the Fourth of July. Her big break came at 18, playing the part of Tom Skerritt's daughter in TV show Picket Fences. She stayed with the series for four years and in 1993 won a Young Artist Award for her performances. Following a string of TV movies, she auditioned for a role in Charmed after being tipped off about the show by her friend Shannen Doherty. The supernatural drama made her a global star. More recently, she has played Ella Montgomery in teen drama Pretty Little Liars.
