Roger Moore (Actor) .. James Bond
Born: October 14, 1927 in London
Best Known For: Playing James Bond for a record 12 years.
Early-life: Roger George Moore was born on October 14, 1927, in Stockwell, London, the only child of a policeman. He originally wanted to be an artist, gaining experience as a tracer at an animated film company. After National Service spent in military intelligence, he worked as an extra in the films Perfect Strangers and Caesar and Cleopatra. The director Brian Desmond Hurst arranged for him to train at Rada, which helped get rid of his cockney accent.
Career: Moore's first important film role came in the 1949 musical comedy Trottie True, but he supplemented his income by modelling. In 1953 he moved to the US, gaining a contract with MGM. He appeared alongside Elizabeth Taylor in The Last Time I Saw Paris before concentrating on TV work. Ivanhoe made him a star and he followed that with Maverick and The Alaskans. After moving back to the UK, Moore starred in The Saint and The Persuaders before becoming James Bond in 1973's Live and Let Die. He stuck with the role until 1985's A View to a Kill. Other films include Gold, The Wild Geese and The Cannonball Run, as well as plenty of comic turns as parodies of himself. He died on May 23, 2017 at the age of 89.
Quote: 'My acting range? Left eyebrow raised, right eyebrow raised.'
Trivia: Moore became a UNICEF ambassador in 1991.
Christopher Lee (Actor) .. Francisco Scaramanga
Born: May 27, 1922 in Belgravia, London
Best Known For: Playing Dracula.
Early-life: Born Christopher Frank Carandini Lee on May 27, 1922, in Belgravia, London, the son of an Italian aristocrat and a soldier. He had an older sister, Xandra, whose daughter is actress Harriet Walter. When their parents divorced, the children were raised by their mother and her second husband, a banker. Lee attended Wellington College, then worked in a London shipping office before serving in the RAF during the Second World War. On being demobbed, he was snapped up by Rank Studios, but failed to get a big break, appearing instead in several small roles.
Career: Lee hit the big time in 1957 when his formidable height landed him the role of the monster in Hammer's The Curse of Frankenstein. It marked the beginning of his horror movie partnership with Peter Cushing, which also included such films as Dracula, The Mummy, and The Gorgon. Lee went on to become one of the world's most prolific actors. Star Wars episodes II and III and The Lord of the Rings introduced him to a new generation of fans. Other significant titles include The Wicker Man, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Gremlins II, The Man with the Golden Gun and The Golden Compass. He also appeared in Alice in Wonderland, Burke and Hare, Season of the Witch and The Hobbit. He died on June 7, 2015, at the age of 93 due to respiratory problems and heart failure.
Quote: 'There are many vampires in the world today - you only have to think of the film business.'
Trivia: Lee was knighted in 2009. Away from acting, he was an accomplished singer and had an intriguing sideline as a heavy metal star.
Britt Ekland (Actor) .. Mary Goodnight
Born: October 06, 1942 in Stockholm, Sweden
Best Known For: Her high-profile relationships.
Early-life: Born Britt-Marie Eklund on October 6, 1942, in Stockholm, Sweden. She describes her mother as a beautiful woman who lived for her children. Her father, she has claimed, was a womaniser. She attended drama school and joined a travelling theatre troupe in her teens. She left Sweden at the age of 19 after making a handful of Swedish movies and eventually became a star in Italian films before heading to England.
Career: Despite some decent film roles, Ekland became famous for being married to Peter Sellers, and appeared with him in After the Fox and The Bobo. She had a small but memorable role in 1971 cult classic Get Carter. Two years later, she made The Wicker Man, which remains one of her most popular movies. Her Bond girl role in 1974's The Man with the Golden Gun sealed her reputation as a sex symbol and won her a lifetime of publicity. Few of her roles since have been memorable. She began appearing in British pantos in 1992 and has written a warts-and-all autobiography. She appeared in the 10th series of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in 2010.
Quote: On her Bond character, Mary Goodnight: 'It was one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done, but it did nothing for my career.'
Trivia: In addition to Swedish, Ekland is fluent in English, French and German.
