Early-life:
Born Sarah Anne Callies - Wayne is her mother's maiden name - in La Grange, Illinois, on June 1, 1977, but grew up in Hawaii, where both of her parents are university professors. She developed a love of acting at a young age, and appeared in numerous school productions, but initially decided to concentrate on getting an education. She attended Dartmouth University, where she majored in indigenous and feminist studies, before going on to gain a masters degree from Denver's National Theater Conservatory.
Career:
Callies' first big break came in 2003, when she won a major role in the TV series Queen's Supreme. The show was not a success, but she followed it up with appearances in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and Dragnet, before being cast as Jane Porter in the short-lived series Tarzan. Her big break came when she joined the cast of the hit drama Prison Break as troubled Dr Sara Tancredi. Since then, Callies has also starred in the films The Celestine Prophecy, Whisper, and Bittersweet. Since 2010, she has starred in the TV series The Walking Dead.
