Early-life: Hugh John Mungo Grant was born in London on September 9, 1960, and grew up in Hammersmith. "I was a charming little boy, but a bit neurotic," says Grant. "I was very pale and small for my age and I used to faint a lot." His mother was a teacher, his father a carpet salesman-turned-painter. He has an older brother called Jamie. Grant won a scholarship to Oxford in 1979, where he tried his hand at student drama, at one point featuring in Hamlet - performed in Star Trek costumes.
Career: Grant started out as a member of comedy troupe The Jockeys of Norfolk. He appeared in his first film, Privileged, in 1982. Other early projects include The Detective, A Very Peculiar Practice, The Demon Lover and Ladies in Charge. He had higher profile roles in Maurice, The Lair of the White Worm and The Remains of the Day. His big break came when he was cast in Four Weddings and a Funeral in 1994. Big-screen productions since include An Awfully Big Adventure, Sense and Sensibility, Notting Hill, Mickey Blue Eyes, About a Boy, Love Actually and two Bridget Jones films. He could recently be heard in animated film The Pirates!

Early-life: Antonia Collette was born on November 1, 1972, in Sydney, Australia, the first of three children to truck driver Bob and his wife Judy, a customer service representative. After leaving school at 16, she enrolled in the National Institute of Dramatic Arts, and supported herself by delivering pizzas. After studying for 18 months, she left to star in the Russell Crowe movie Spotswood. She was nominated for the Australian Film Institute plaudit of Best Supporting Actress.
Career: In 1994, Collette landed the lead role in Muriel's Wedding, gaining 40 lbs for the part. She made her Hollywood debut in hit-and-miss 1995 comedy The Pallbearer. However, her Oscar-nominated role in The Sixth Sense really put her on the map in Tinseltown. Toni has also appeared in Shaft, About a Boy and won critical acclaim for her work in 2006 comedy drama Little Miss Sunshine. Later projects include Tsunami: The Aftermath, The Black Balloon, and Hey, Hey, It's Esther Blueburger. Between 2009 and 2011 she starred in the American comedy drama United States of Tara in a role that saw her win an Emmy and Golden Globe. Away from acting, she also plays in her band Toni Collette and the Finish.

Best Known For: Playing the kooky youngster opposite Hugh Grant in About a Boy.
Early-life: Nicholas Caradoc Hoult was born on December 7, 1989, in Wokingham, Berkshire. He was the son of Glenis, a piano teacher, and Roger Hoult, a pilot. He has a brother called James and sisters Rosie and Clarista. He is the great grandson of Dame Anna Neagle. He attended Ranelagh School in Bracknell, Berkshire.
Career: Hoult was talent-spotted at the age of three by a director struck by his concentration during a production of The Caucasian Chalk Circle, and landed his first film role aged five in Intimate Relations alongside Julie Walters and Rupert Graves. Then followed a steady, if not thunderous, stream of work in the likes of The Bill and Casualty, before he found himself as Hugh Grant's surrogate son in About a Boy. That led to high-profile roles in such critically acclaimed fare as Nicolas Cage movie The Weather Man and the Richard E Grant film Wah-Wah. Most recently he has wowed critics and earned a huge army of fans for his work on the Channel 4 teen drama Skins and TV movie Coming Down the Mountain. Early-life: Rachel Hannah Weisz was born on March 7, 1970, in London, to parents George, a Hungarian inventor, and Edith, an Austrian psychoanalyst. She became a model at the age of 14, and didn't take up acting until she was a student at Trinity College, Cambridge; Ben Miller, Sacha Baron Cohen and Sue Perkins were among her contemporaries. She formed a university theatre company, Talking Tongues, which won a Guardian Award at the 1991 Edinburgh Festival, but disbanded two years later.
Career: Following a number of low-key movies, Weisz appeared in 1996 big-screen hit Chain Reaction, then in Stealing Beauty, before more commercial success arrived with The Land Girls in 1998. She then starred in blockbuster The Mummy with Brendan Fraser, and its sequel The Mummy Returns, as well as giving critically acclaimed performances in Beautiful Creatures, About a Boy, Enemy at the Gates, Confidence, Runaway Jury, Constantine, and The Constant Gardener. Early-life: Sharon was born in Drumchapel, Glasgow on January 1, 1967. She studied drama at the Adam Smith College in Kirkcaldy and the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London. Her first TV credit was a guest role in an episode of Taggart in 1994.
Career: Guest parts followed in a number of TV shows until Small landed a lead role in BBC comedy drama Sunburn. This lasted for two series and she followed it up with the six-part drama Glasgow Kiss. She went on to star in About a Boy (2002) and Dear Frankie (2004) and had guest parts in Cutting It and Rebus before landing a lead role as DS Barbara Havers in BBC crime drama The Inspector Lynley Mysteries alongside Nathaniel Parker. The series ran from 2001 until 2008. More recently, the in-demand actress has starred in Murderland, Mistresses, Downton Abbey, Kidnap and Ransom, New Tricks, Silent Witness, Call the Midwife, Death in Paradise and Midsomer Murders.

Early-life: Victoria was born in Dublin in 1974. Her family, headed by her uncle Michael, is one of the richest in Ireland. Victoria was educated at Saint Columbia's College, Dublin, and St George's School, Ascot. After completing an A Level in theatre studies, she studied acting at the Bristol Old Vic theatre school.
Career: In 1997, Smurfit starred in BBC miniseries Ivanhoe, and a year later, she appeared in another period drama, Berkeley Square, before making a name for herself as Orla O'Connell in Ballykissangel.
