Best Known For: Law & Order.
Early-life: Dennis Farina was born in Chicago on February 29, 1944, to Italian-American parents. He was raised in a large family alongside three brothers and three sisters. Farina served 18 years as a policeman in Chicago before becoming an actor. He began his career in showbusiness working for director Michael Mann as a police consultant on Mann's early works. This led to an interest in acting and he was cast in a small role in the 1981 film Thief. Farina proceeded to moonlight as an actor in the Chicago theatre scene before Mann chose him for his Crime Story series.
Career: Farina went on to become a famous face in film, often as a mobster or police officer. One of his most well-known movie characters was Jimmy Serrano, the mob boss from Midnight Run. Other movies in his filmography included Manhunter, Striking Distance, Another Stakeout, Get Shorty, Saving Private Ryan, Snatch and Out of Sight. He starred as Det Joe Fontana on long-running TV series Law & Order from 2004 to 2006.After leaving the crime drama, he starred in a number of films, including What Happens in Vegas and Knucklehead. He died on July 22, 2013 at the age of 69.

Trivia: Farina was the father of three sons, Dennis, Michael and Joseph, from his 10-year marriage to Patricia, which ended in divorce in 1980.

Best Known For: Playing Detective Ed Green in Law & Order.
Early-life: Born Jesse Lamont Watkins on January 18, 1969, in Virginia. His dad, Jesse Reed Watkins, was a lorry driver; his mum, Virginia, was a college career counsellor. They divorced when Jesse Jnr was young and Virginia moved her family to Buffalo, New York. She remarried and he adopted his stepfather's surname. While in high school, he was cast in a play and realised acting was his vocation. After leaving school, he worked in restaurants to pay his fees at New York University.
Career: Jesse was cast in assorted soaps and commercials before landing his big break in award-winning Broadway musical Rent. In 1997, he featured in short-lived drama series 413 Hope St, and went on to appear in Restaurant, New York Undercover, Deep In My Heart, The X Files and Ally McBeal. In 1999 he landed the role of Detective Ed Green in hit cops-and-robbers drama Law & Order. The same year he was voted Sexiest Newcomer by People Magazine. He also played the character in spin-offs Special Victims Unit and Criminal Intent. He reprised his stage role for the 2005 movie version of Rent and more recently appeared in the short-lived action drama The Philanthropist. He currently plays Detective West in The Flash.

Best Known For: Playing Jack McCoy in Law & Order.
Early-life: Samuel Atkinson Waterston was born on November 15, 1940, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He caught the acting bug at the age of seven, attended Groton Prep School and entered Yale University on a scholarship in 1958. Sam studied French and history, and graduated with a BA in 1962. He honed his craft at the American Actors Workshop in Paris. After leaving Yale, he spent some months at the Clinton Playhouse.
Career: Waterston made his showbiz debut in 1965 appearing in The Plastic Dome of Norma Jean and Dr Kildare. A string of projects followed, including Generation, Three, The Glass Menagerie, The Great Gatsby, Capricorn One, Eagle's Wing and Heaven's Gate. He received an Oscar-nomination as journalist Sydney Schanberg in acclaimed 1984 movie The Killing Fields. He's also appeared in Hannah and Her Sisters, September, Serial Mom and The Newsroom. Between 1994 and 2010, he played Jack McCoy in 333 episodes of Law & Order, a role he reprised for the two spin-off shows, Special Victims Unit and Trial By Jury, as well as Homicide: Life on the Street.

Best Known For: His teen roles.
Early-life: Born September 30, 1961, in Los Angeles, California. He was raised in Santa Barbara and American Samoa. His sister, Catherine, is an opera singer. Their parents were teachers. By the time he was 14, Stoltz was earning money playing piano for local theatre productions. He became friends with future ER star Anthony Edwards during one of them, and the pair were roommates at the University of Southern California, but Stoltz dropped out early. He moved to New York in 1981 to study with Stella Adler.
Career: Stoltz's professional career began on the stage, including a stint at the Edinburgh Festival. He made his movie debut in 1982's Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and gained a Golden Globe nomination for his performance as a deformed teenager in 1985's Mask. Roles in Some Kind of Wonderful, Say Anything, Memphis Belle, Singles, Pulp Fiction and Rob Roy followed. More recently, he's appeared in The House of Mirth and The Honeymooners. He was most recently seen on-screen in short-lived sci-fi series Caprica.
Quote: 'I'm a very lucky man. I love what I do, and the fact I'm able to make a living at it staggers me.'
Trivia: He is a vegetarian.
