Early-life:
Born Christopher David Noth on November 13, 1954, in Madison, Wisconsin. He has three older brothers. His mother, Jeanne Parr, was a news reporter for US TV channel CBS, so the family moved around a lot when he was young. He claims to have lived in England, Yugoslavia and Spain as a child, but never for very long. After school, he spent two years at Marlboro College in Vermont, living in a cabin in the woods he built himself.
Career:
Noth studied acting with Sandford Meisner in New York and at the Yale School of Drama. He made his film debut in 1981's Waitress! and eventually caught producers' interest with a solid performance in Off Beat in 1986. Roles in I'll Take Manhattan and Baby Boom followed, and he became a household name in the US thanks to his part as Detective Mike Logan in Law and Order. He quit after five years with the show. Sex and the City introduced him to an international audience in 1998. He's also appeared on the big screen in the show's spin-off movies, as well as Cast Away, The Glass House and My One and Only. His recent work includes The Good Wife and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Early-life:
Andrew Thomas McCarthy was born in New York on November 29, 1962. He's the third youngest of four brothers and grew up in Westfield, an affluent New Jersey suburb. When he was 16, his family moved to New York, where he attended a school which encouraged his interest in acting. After appearing in numerous plays and musicals there, he began studying theatre at New York University. He also took courses at the Circle in the Square Theatre School.
Career:
While still at university, McCarthy landed a lead role in his debut movie Class (1983), opposite Rob Lowe and Jacqueline Bisset. In 2005, he made Heaven Help Us and St Elmo's Fire. The latter co-starred many of the so-called 1980s Brat Pack, of which McCarthy was a leading light. A year later he made his biggest hit, Pretty In Pink. He also starred in Mannequin (1987), Less Than Zero (1987), and Weekend at Bernie's (1989). McCarthy continued to work, but in little-seen projects, until making a comeback with TV series Kingdom Hospital in 2003. Since then he has appeared in Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Lipstick Jungle, and Gossip Girl. He also works extensively on stage.

Early-life:
Born Peri Kay Oldham on May 27, 1961, in Waco, Texas. Her father was Jim O'Brien, a well-known regional TV and radio personality who died in a 1983 skydiving accident. She grew up in Dallas, and from the age of eight wanted to be an actress. Her family encouraged her and, with her two sisters and brother, she began appearing in commercials. After studying at the Dallas Theatre Centre, she took drama at the University of Texas in Austin and London's British-American Academy.
Career:
In the US, Gilpin struggled to get decent roles, so worked as a make-up artist and radio producer. Later, she became an apprentice at the acclaimed Williamstown Theatre Festival, and had small parts in TV shows Cheers, Matlock, 21 Jump Street and Wings. Actress Blythe Danner liked her work and helped her gain roles, although the Frasier job only came about when original choice Lisa Kudrow (of Friends) dropped out. Gilpin's other projects include How to Kill Your Neighbour's Dog and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. She also runs production company Bristol Cities with former Frasier co-star Jane Leeves. Since Frasier ended in 2004, Gilpin has appeared in Medium, Desperate Housewives, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Make It or Break It, and Hot in Cleveland.
