Leila, an Iranian-American, is the only daughter of a sprawling immigrant clan living in Noughties Brooklyn. She trembles under the weight of honouring her parents, Ali Reza and Shireen. A lesbian marriage is met with disapproval and Leila channels her anger into a dream of becoming the next acclaimed film-maker.
