Early-life:
Jennifer Anne Garner was born in Houston, Texas, on April 17, 1972. The middle of three daughters, she was raised in Charleston, West Virginia, by her English teacher mother and father, a chemical engineer. As a child she had ballet lessons. After graduating from high school, Garner enrolled at Denison University, Ohio, to study chemistry, but soon discovered her heart lay in acting. She planned to do drama at Yale, but moved to New York instead.
Career:
Garner worked in a restaurant in New York while trying to land acting roles. She then moved to Los Angeles, and made her TV debut in an adaptation of Danielle Steel novel Zoya. She went on to have small roles in Law & Order, Deconstructing Harry (1997), TV drama Time of Your Life and Dude, Where's My Car? (2000) before landing the lead in sci-fi TV series Alias in 2001. Other projects include Pearl Harbor (2001), Catch Me if You Can (2002), Daredevil (2003) and its spin off Elektra (2005). More recently, she has starred in Juno (2007), Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009), The Invention of Lying (2009), Arthur (2011), The Odd Life of Timothy Green (2012) and Dallas Buyers Club (2013). Away from acting, she enjoys cooking, gardening, hiking and kickboxing.
