Christopher Reeve (Actor) .. Clark Kent/Superman
Born: September 25, 1952 in New York.
Best Known For: Playing Superman.
Early-life: Born September 25, 1952, in New York. He has a brother called Benjamin. His father was a writer and professor, his mother a journalist. They divorced when Reeve was four and he moved with his mum to Princeton, New Jersey. She later married an investment banker. After high school, he studied at Cornell University, supporting himself with acting work. He was then accepted, along with Robin Williams, at the prestigious Julliard School of Performing Arts.
Career: Landed a role in soap Love of Life to help pay his college fees, and appeared on stage with Katharine Hepburn. He became so busy he was forced to quit Julliard in his final year. Made his big-screen debut with a small role in 1976 movie Gray Lady Down, then landed the part which would make him famous - Superman. He played the comic-book hero four times, but because of its enormous popularity, he found it difficult to escape its shadow and his career suffered. In 1995, he was paralysed in a horse riding accident. Subsequently, he worked tirelessly, lobbying for better treatment for disabled people and improved research. Reeve continued to act, appearing in TV movie Rear Window and TV series Smallville, based on the Superman mythology, before his death in 2004.
Quote: "A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles."
Trivia: Robin Williams helped pay Reeve's medical bills during his final years.
Margot Kidder (Actor) .. Lois Lane
Gene Hackman (Actor) .. Lex Luthor
Born: January 30, 1930 in California
Best Known For: The French Connection, The Mexican, Enemy of the State... too many to mention.
Early-life: Born Eugene Allen Hackman on January 30, 1930, in San Bernardino, California, after which his family moved around frequently before finally settling in Danville, Illinois. He has a brother called Richard. After his parents divorced, Hackman left home aged 16 to join the US Marine Corps where he served as a field radio operator. His mother died in 1962, as a result of a house fire she accidently started while smoking.
Career: After making the decision to get into acting in 1956, Hackman joined the Pasadena Playhouse in California (where incidentally, he struck up a friendship with Dustin Hoffman). After performances in several off-Broadway plays, Hackman's first movie was Lilith alongside Warren Beatty, who then cast him in his breakthrough film, Bonnie and Clyde. Hackman was soon in demand, showcasing his talents in everything from comedy (in Young Frankenstein) to villainy (as Lex Luthor in Superman). He's also won two Oscars - Best Actor for The French Connection, and Best Supporting Actor for Unforgiven. He retired from acting in 2004 to concentrate on writing novels.
Quote: "It really costs me a lot emotionally to watch myself on-screen. I think of myself, and feel like I'm quite young, and then I look at this old man with the baggy chins and the tired eyes and the receding hairline and all that."
Trivia: Hackman has written a number of historical novels with undersea archaeologist Daniel Lenihan.
Marlon Brando (Actor) .. Jor-El

Career: Brando started making a name for himself on Broadway in the late 1940s, achieving stardom as Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williams's 1947 play A Streetcar Named Desire. Warner Brothers came knocking and asked him to do a screen test. This role quickly established Brando as a Hollywood sex symbol. He went on to star in Viva Zapata! (1952), Julius Caesar (1952), On the Waterfront (1954) and The Wild One (1953). Other highlights in a highly distinguished career include The Godfather (1972), Last Tango in Paris (1972), Superman (1978) and Apocalypse Now (1979). He died on July 1, 2004 at the age of 80.
Quote: "The only thing an actor owes his public is not to bore them."
Trivia: Brando gained a lot of weight during the 1980s and by the mid-1990s he weighed more than 300lbs (21 stone).
