Michael Keaton (Actor) .. Bruce Wayne/Batman
Born: September 05, 1951 in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania
Best Known For: Playing such diverse characters as Batman and Beetlejuice.
Early-life: Born Michael John Douglas on September 5, 1951, the youngest of seven children from a Catholic family in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. He studied speech for two years at Kent State, before dropping out and moving to Pittsburgh. An unsuccessful attempt at stand-up comedy led to him working as a TV cameraman before he realised he wanted to work in front of the cameras. He moved to Los Angeles to begin auditioning for TV parts, cropping up in various popular TV shows. He was inspired to take his new surname by actress Diane Keaton.
Career: Keaton's big break came when he landed a lead role in the short-lived sitcom Working Stiffs in 1979; it led to an appearance in the 1982 film Night Shift in 1982. Mr Mom, Johnny Dangerously and Gung Ho followed, but it was his role as the title character in the 1988 Tim Burton horror-comedy Beetlejuice that boosted him onto the A-list. He reunited with Burton in 1989 to make Batman, the highest-grossing film of the year. After an equally popular sequel to that film, Keaton remained in demand during the 1990s, appearing in Pacific Heights, One Good Cop, the star-studded Shakespeare adaptation Much Ado About Nothing and the thriller Desperate Measures. Since 2000, Keaton has provided the voices of Chick Hicks in Cars and Ken in Toy Story, and received major critical plaudits, including an Oscar nomination, for his role in Birdman.
Quote: "I had to change my name because there were two other actors registered at Equity with that name. One of them is doing quite well from what I understand, the other is making cheap porn movies... like Basic Instinct."
Trivia: Keaton is a Pittsburgh Pirates fan and negotiated a break in his Batman movie contract in case the Pirates made the playoffs that year.
Michelle Pfeiffer (Actor) .. Selina Kyle/Catwoman
Born: April 29, 1958 in California
Best Known For: The Fabulous Baker Boys and Batman Returns.
Early-life: Michelle Marie Pfeiffer was born on April 29, 1958, in Santa Ana, California. She has an older brother and two younger sisters. Her father was a heating engineer, her mother a housewife. On leaving school, she trained to be a court stenographer and worked in a supermarket. After winning the Miss Orange County beauty pageant she moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career, and studied at The Beverly Hills Playhouse before making her TV debut in a 1978 episode of Fantasy Island.
Career: Pfeiffer gained regular parts in short-lived sitcom Delta House in 1979, and crime drama BAD Cats. Her first film was 1980's The Hollywood Knights. Landing the lead in Grease 2 should have boosted her career, but the film was a flop. Parts in Scarface, Ladyhawke, and Sweet Liberty followed, and The Witches of Eastwick made her star in 1987. Since then, she's received Oscar nominations for Dangerous Liaisons, The Fabulous Baker Boys, and Love Field. She also starred in Frankie and Johnny, Batman Returns, The Age of Innocence, One Fine Day, and I Am Sam. After some time away from the movies, she returned with a vengeance in star-studded fantasy Stardust and won rave reviews for her role as a courtesan in Cheri. More recently she's appeared in New Year's Eve, Dark Shadows and The Family, and claims she plans to work a lot now that her children are grown up.
Quote: "I act for free, but I demand a huge salary as compensation for all the annoyance of being a public personality. In that sense, I earn every dime I make."
Trivia: Accidentally cut Al Pacino with broken glass while auditioning for Scarface (1983).
Danny DeVito (Actor) .. Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin
Born: November 17, 1944 in New Jersey
Best Known For: His on-screen partnerships with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Douglas.
Early-life: Daniel Michael DeVito Jr was born on November 17, 1944, in Neptune, New Jersey. His father owned a dry-cleaner's, a farm shop, a cafe and a pool hall. DeVito attended a strict Catholic school, then qualified as a hairdresser and worked in his sister's beauty parlour. During the mid-1960s he enrolled at New York's American Academy of Dramatic Art to study make-up techniques, but ended up acting instead. Before hitting the big time, he shared an apartment with Michael Douglas.
Career: DeVito's first movie was 1970's Dreams of Glass. Small roles followed in Bananas, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (produced by Douglas), and The Van. His big break came when he was cast as acerbic boss Louie in hit sitcom Taxi. Since then, he has worked steadily in such films as Terms of Endearment, Romancing the Stone, The Jewel of the Nile, Twins, Batman Returns, Big Fish and Be Cool. DeVito has also directed several movies and has his own production company, Jersey Films, which was responsible for classics such as Pulp Fiction and Erin Brockovich.
Quote: "I'll tell you one thing: it's a cruel, cruel world."
Trivia: Married to former Cheers star Rhea Perlman since 1982. They have three children.
Christopher Walken (Actor) .. Max Shreck
Born: March 31, 1943 in New York
Best Known For: Scene-stealing roles in a number of films.
Early-life: Born Ronald Walken on March 31, 1943, in Astoria, New York. His father, a baker, was German, his mother was Scottish, and he has two brothers. All three boys had modelling and acting careers as children, and made appearances on various popular TV shows. Meeting comedy actor Jerry Lewis, while filming one of them, persuaded Walken to tackle acting full-time. After attending the Professional Children's School, he studied dance at Hofstra University, but dropped out to take a role in musical Best Foot Forward in 1963.
Career: For the next few years, Walken appeared in musical productions. After 1966's Barefoot in Athens, small roles in The Anderson Tapes and Annie Hall followed. His big break came in 1978 when he won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for The Deer Hunter. He's been in demand ever since. Other films include A View to a Kill, Batman Returns, True Romance, Pulp Fiction and Catch Me If You Can. He continues to be an in-demand character actor, excelling in both comedy and serious drama. Dancing in Fat Boy Slim video Weapon of Choice introduced him to a new generation of fans. More recent work includes Wedding Crashers, Man of the Year, Hairspray and Seven Psychopaths.
Quote: "I don't need to be made to look evil. I can do that on my own."
Trivia: He worked briefly as a lion tamer in a circus at the age of 15.
Michael Gough (Actor) .. Alfred
Pat Hingle (Actor) .. Commissioner Gordon
Michael Murphy (Actor) .. Mayor
Vincent Schiavelli (Actor) .. Organ grinder
Cristi Conaway (Actor) .. Ice Princess
Tim Burton (Director)
Born: August 25, 1958 in California
Best Known For: A string of blockbusters including Batman and Sleepy Hollow.
Early-life: Timothy Walter Burton was born on August 25, 1958, in Burbank, California. He started drawing at an early age and studied animation at California Institute of the Arts. He was awarded a fellowship from Disney and went on to work for the corporation. However, he found working on The Fox and The Hound to be light years away from what he really wanted to do. In time though, he was given the freedom to make acclaimed short films Vincent and Frankenweenie, an unreleased spin on the Frankenstein legend.
Career: Having seen Frankenweenie, comedian Paul Reubens chose Burton to direct his 1985 movie Pee Wee's Big Adventure. That paved the way for his first blockbuster, Beetlejuice. Burton was entrusted with the long-awaited Batman movie, and when that became a huge hit in 1989, he pressed on with personal project Edward Scissorhands. A commercial and critical success, he followed it up with stylish sequel Batman Returns. Although 1994 offering Ed Wood was a commercial disaster, his biopic of the eponymous film-maker remains one of his finest works and also won Martin Landau an Oscar. Other hits include The Nightmare Before Christmas (which he produced), Mars Attacks!, Sleepy Hollow, Planet of the Apes, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Alice in Wonderland was a huge commercial success when it was released in 2010.
Quote: "Movies are like an expensive form of therapy for me."
