George visits a Victorian villa in Leeds, West Yorkshire, where Jawad and Charlie are planning a master en-suite which, if the rest of their quirky renovations are anything to go by, looks set to be a mammoth task. He also helps Jason and Hannah in Brixton, south London, who are tackling an ambitious two-storey extension. The big question is - should they lose their redundant chimney breast and increase the size of the room?

Early-life:
Born in Sunderland on May 27, 1974. His dad, also called George, died when he was six and mum Anne eventually remarried. The new family moved to nearby Blackfell, where they still live. The former Oxclose Comprehensive pupil knew from an early age that buildings and design were for him. His grandparents were builders and he spent much of his youth working on sites. He became a star student at Wearside College and then Newcastle University before landing a job with the architect Sir Terry Farrell in London.
Career:
Clarke was asked write a book on architecture and as his literary agent also worked with broadcasters, he was asked to screentest for the role of presenter of Channel 5 series Build a New Life in the Country. He later moved to Channel 4 where he started out on such series as The Home Show and Restoration Man, and has since branched out with George Clarke's Amazing Spaces. He continues to write books about property and in 2011 left his company clarke:desai to set up new firm George Clarke + Partners.

Away from work, he is a passionate supporter of Sunderland FC.
