Bill Campbell (Actor) .. Dr Clint Webber
Kelsey Grammer (Actor) .. Frasier Crane
Born: February 21, 1955 in St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands
Best Known For: Playing Dr Frasier Crane.
Early-life: Born Allen Kelsey Grammer on February 21, 1955, in St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. His parents split up when he was two, and he was raised by his mother in New Jersey and Florida. He turned to acting after reading Shakespeare as a boy. Grammer has suffered several family tragedies - his father was shot dead in 1968, his sister was murdered in 1975, and in 1980 his two half-brothers died in a scuba-diving accident.
Career: Determined to become a serious actor, Grammer spent two years at New York's Juilliard School. He then worked in theatre before making his TV debut in 1983 miniseries Kennedy. He had a stint in soap Another World, and in 1984 began playing Dr Frasier Crane in Cheers. After Cheers ended in 1993, he launched the hugely popular spin-off series Frasier. In addition to starring in 264 editions of the sitcom, he directed more than 30 episodes. Grammer has also starred in X-Men: The Last Stand, short-lived sitcoms Back to You and Hank, and the dramas Boss and Partners. He is also the voice of Sideshow Bob in The Simpsons.
Quote: "Life is supposed to get tough."
Trivia: He has won three Golden Globes - two for Frasier and one for Boss.
John Mahoney (Actor) .. Martin Crane
David Hyde Pierce (Actor) .. Niles Crane
Born: April 03, 1959 in New York
Best Known For: Playing Niles in Frasier.
Early-life: David Hyde Pierce was born on April 3, 1959, in Saratoga Springs, New York. His father ran an insurance agency, and David says he had a "run-of-the-mill, middle-class" upbringing. The youngest of four children, David started taking piano lessons at the age of eight and yearned to become a concert pianist. He also did well academically and attended the prestigious Yale University, where he decided he would rather be an actor rather than a musician. In 1981, David graduated with a degree in English and Theatre Arts and moved to New York to continue acting studies, supporting himself by working as a tie salesman.
Career: David worked steadily on the stage throughout the 1980s and made his film debut in Bright Lights, Big City in 1988. He was later offered a role in Little Man Tate by former Yale classmate Jodie Foster, who remembered him from a student play. In 1992, he was in short-lived sitcom The Powers That Be and caught the eye of Frasier's creators, who noticed his resemblance to Kelsey Grammer and wrote the role of Niles especially for him. His performance in the long-running sitcom earned him four Emmy awards and a reported salary of $1million per episode for the last few seasons. Frasier came to an end in 2003 and David has since been seen in the film Down With Love and in various stage productions on Broadway and the West End. He won a Tony Award in 2007 for his performance in Kander and Ebb musical Curtains.
Quote: "My life is an open book, just don't expect me to read it to you."
Trivia: He has been a long-time supporter of the Alzheimer's Association.
Jane Leeves (Actor) .. Daphne Moon
Born: April 18, 1961 in Ilford, Essex
Best Known For: Her kooky character on Frasier.
Early-life: Jane was born in Ilford, Essex, on April 18, 1961, and grew up in East Grinstead, Sussex. She originally trained to be a ballerina, but an injury at 18 halted her career. She went on to work as a model, was one of the dancers on The Benny Hill Show and appeared in commercials and rock videos - doing less strenuous dancing - before getting the acting bug. The profession had always appealed to Jane, who wrote in a schoolbook that she wanted to be an actress when she was a five-year-old.
Career: After moving to Los Angeles, Leeves appeared in a series called Throb and made guest appearances in a number of shows, including Seinfeld and the miniseries Pandora's Clock. Her big break came in 1993 when she was cast as Daphne Moon in Cheers spin-off Frasier. Leeves has starred on Broadway as Sally Bowles in Cabaret and played parts in a variety of films, including Monty Python's The Meaning of Life (1983), To Live and Die in LA (1985), Miracle on 34th Street (1994) and Music of the Heart (1999). Since 2010, she has starred in the sitcom Hot in Cleveland.
Quote: "I wish I were more like Daphne - she's so comfortable with who she is."
Trivia: She launched a production company called Bristol Cities with her sister Kathryn and Frasier co-star Peri Gilpin.
Peri Gilpin (Actor) .. Roz Doyle
Born: May 27, 1961 in Waco, Texas
Best Known For: Playing Roz Doyle in Frasier.
Early-life: Born Peri Kay Oldham on May 27, 1961, in Waco, Texas. Her father was Jim O'Brien, a well-known regional TV and radio personality who died in a 1983 skydiving accident. She grew up in Dallas, and from the age of eight wanted to be an actress. Her family encouraged her and, with her two sisters and brother, she began appearing in commercials. After studying at the Dallas Theatre Centre, she took drama at the University of Texas in Austin and London's British-American Academy.
Career: In the US, Gilpin struggled to get decent roles, so worked as a make-up artist and radio producer. Later, she became an apprentice at the acclaimed Williamstown Theatre Festival, and had small parts in TV shows Cheers, Matlock, 21 Jump Street and Wings. Actress Blythe Danner liked her work and helped her gain roles, although the Frasier job only came about when original choice Lisa Kudrow (of Friends) dropped out. Gilpin's other projects include How to Kill Your Neighbour's Dog and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. She also runs production company Bristol Cities with former Frasier co-star Jane Leeves. Since Frasier ended in 2004, Gilpin has appeared in Medium, Desperate Housewives, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Make It or Break It, and Hot in Cleveland.
Quote: "Through plays and the fine arts, we see how history repeats itself and how it affects politics."
Trivia: She co-owns a production company, Bristol Cities, with Frasier co-star Jane Leeves and Jane's sister, Kathryn.
