Early-life:
Rachel Hunter was born on September 9, 1969, in Auckland, New Zealand. As a child she dreamed of becoming a ballerina. Her parents divorced when she was young. In 1982, she contracted a rare blood disease, but oddly, upon her recovery she became more extroverted. At 17 she was persuaded by her aunt to try modelling. Rachel travelled to New York, where she was signed up by the Ford agency. Within a few years she was one of the top fashion models of the 1980s.
Career:
Hunter appeared on thousands of covers worldwide, but at 17 turned down an offer to pose for Playboy and eventually gave up modelling to become an actress. She appeared in TV series The Drew Carey Show and Suddenly Susan and in the films A Walk in the Park, Just a Little Harmless Sex and Winding Roads. She appeared in the video for Stacey's Mom by Fountains of Wayne, one of America's most played pop promos and also featured in The Vicar of Dibley. She established The Rachel Hunter Gorilla Fund and is an ambassador for The Born Free Foundation. Other projects have included the movies Final Move, The Benchwarmers, IRA: King of Nothing and the TV series Style Me.
