Early-life:
Born Gary Durdin (he changed his surname later due to it being continually mispronounced) on December 11, 1966. He is the youngest of three children. His father is an agent for jazz musicians, while his mother is a fashion designer. Thanks to his love of music, Dourdan was sent to a performing arts high school, but decided against going to college. Instead, he went through a rebellious phase, and only got back on the straight and narrow after being mugged _ he thought he was going to die, and realised he hadn't yet made a mark in life.
Career:
Dourdan gave up on becoming a professional musician and became a model, but was spotted by actress/singer/dancer Debbie Allen, who offered him a role in sitcom A Different World, which she was directing. It led to appearances on other shows, including New York Undercover. His first film was Weekend at Bernie's II, followed by The Paper, Alien: Resurrection, and Dancing in September. Other TV series include Swift Justice, and Soul Food. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation made him a star in 2000.
