Balian, a French blacksmith in exile from his homeland, joins a crusade to Jerusalem, where he becomes a knight and pledges to defend the city and its people. Under the rule of the progressive King Baldwin, a fragile peace between Christians and Muslims has been established in the Holy City. However, the king is crippled by leprosy, and his days are numbered. His imminent death is expected to bring with it a resugence in conflict between the rival religious factions, and it is left to Balian to try to avert the seemingly inevitable war. Early-life: Orlando Jonathan Blanchard Bloom was born on January 13, 1977 in Canterbury. He has a sister, Samantha. At a young age, he was encouraged by his mother to take art and drama classes. In 1993, he moved to London to study a course in drama, photography and sculpture at Fine Arts College, Hampstead. He then spent two seasons at the National Youth Theatre, where he earned a scholarship to train at the British American Dance Academy. He made his professional acting debut on Casualty.

Early-life: Eva Gaelle Green was born in Paris on July 5, 1980 to actress Marlene Jobert and dentist Walter Green. She has a non-identical twin sister, Joy. Eva studied acting at St Paul Drama School in Paris and Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London, and film direction at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. After returning to Paris, she appeared on stage in several productions.
Career: Green made her film debut in Bernardo Bertolucci's The Dreamers (2003). She followed this up with French crime-adventure Arsene Lupin (2004) and Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven (2005). Her big break came in 2006 when she played Vesper Lynd in the James Bond film Casino Royale (2006). She teamed up again with Daniel Craig in The Golden Compass (2007). More recently, she has appeared in American TV drama Camelot and fantasy war film 300: Rise of an Empire (2014).

Early-life: Edward Harrison Norton was born on August 18, 1969, in Columbia, Maryland. He's the oldest of three children. His father was a lawyer working for the American National Trust for Historical Preservation, while his mother was a teacher. Norton knew from the age of five he wanted to be an actor, and spent most of his spare time working with various theatre groups. He attended Columbia School for Theatrical Arts and Yale University.
Career: Norton started out his acting career with New York's Signature Theatre Company. He gravitated to film and received an Oscar nomination for his first movie, Primal Fear, in 1996. He then landed parts in Everyone Says I Love You and The People vs Larry Flynt. He gained another Academy Award nod for American History X in 1998 and starred in David Fincher's critically acclaimed Fight Club a year later. In 2000 he produced, directed and starred in Keeping the Faith. In 2002 he worked on the screenplay for and appeared in Frida. Films since include Red Dragon, The 25th Hour, a remake of The Italian Job, Moonrise Kingdom, The Incredible Hulk and The Bourne Legacy.

Early-life: Born Jeremy John Irons in Cowes on the Isle of Wight on September 19, 1948. He has two older siblings. The young Jeremy was a natural performer, playing drums and the harmonica in a band at Sherborne School in Dorset. Determined to become a professional actor, he trained at the Bristol Old Vic and joined its repertory company. During his time there he portrayed an eclectic mix of roles and gained valuable experience, leading to his acclaimed West End debut in the hit musical Godspell in 1971.
Career: Irons made his TV debut in 1971 in the series The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes and landed several other roles throughout the decade, including in the children's series Play Away. But it was in the 1980s he became widely recognised, thanks to the movie The French Lieutenant's Woman and TV tour de force Brideshead Revisited. These made him a sought after leading man and he went on to appear in productions such as Dead Ringers, Damage, Lolita, Die Hard with a Vengeance and Reversal of Fortune, for which he won an Oscar. Early-life: Brendan Gleeson was born in Dublin on 29 March, 1955. From a very young age, he loved to read classical texts, including Irish play writers such as Samuel Beckett. This love led to him performing in his school production of 'Waiting for Godot', and determined to pursue acting as a career.. He spent several years on the stage, while working as a teacher, then, at the age of 35, decided to audition for films in the UK.
Career: Gleeson's classical acting skills gained the attention of Mel Gibson and he was cast in Braveheart (1995). Since then he has been in a huge variety of films, such as Mission: Impossible II (2000), Lake Placid (1999), The General (1998) and Gangs of New York (2002). He proved his was in the A-league when he was cast in the Harry Potter films and has several leading man roles to his name, including the popular crime caper, In Bruges.

Early-life: William John Neeson was born on June 7, 1952, in Ballymena, Northern Ireland. He made his acting debut at 11 in a school play. He was a good teenage amateur boxer, winning the Irish Youth Championship, but quit after blacking out following a fight. Neeson later enrolled at St Mary's Teaching College in Belfast, but became interested in acting on joining the Belfast Lyric Players' Theatre. He made ends meet with various odd jobs, including forklift operator, truck driver and assistant architect, before stardom beckoned.
Career: Neeson's professional debut was on stage in The Risen People. He was spotted in a play at Dublin's Abbey Theatre by director John Boorman, who cast him in movie Excalibur in 1981. He made a name for himself in Krull, A Woman of Substance, Ellis Island and The Mission. Other leading roles came in Suspect, The Dead Pool and The Big Man. However, he didn't become a major star until Schindler's List in 1993. Since then he's featured in Star Wars: Episode One - The Phantom Menace, Gangs of New York, Love Actually, Kinsey and the brilliant action film Taken. Early-life: Born David Wheeler on March 20, 1963 in Blackpool, Lancashire to Maureen (nee Thewlis) and Alex Raymond Wheeler. He lived above his parents' shop during his childhood. As a teenager, David played in rock band QED and punk rock band Door 66. He travelled to London with Door 66 and ended up enrolling at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, which he graduated from in 1984.
Career: Thewlis had a number of minor roles in films and TV series, including an episode of Only Fools and Horses, until he landed his breakout role in Naked (1993). During the 1990s, he appeared in such films as Black Beauty (1994), Total Eclipse (1995), DragonHeart (1996), Seven Years in Tibet (1997), Divorcing Jack (1998) and The Big Lebowski (1998). Early-life: Michael Christopher Sheen was born on February 5, 1969, in Newport, South Wales, but grew up in Port Talbot. His parents were keen on amateur dramatics, and his father, Meyrick, has worked as a Jack Nicholson impersonator. Michael became hooked on acting while appearing with a local youth theatre, and gave up dreams of being a professional footballer to follow in the footsteps of local boys Richard Burton and Anthony Hopkins to Rada. During his final term, he made his professional stage debut opposite Vanessa Redgrave in When She Danced.
Career: Sheen has continued to turn out acclaimed theatre performances, alongside his impressive TV and film career. He first appeared on the small screen in 1993's Gallowglass, while his movie debut was in 1995's Othello. High-profile projects such as Wilde, Heartlands and The Four Feathers followed. Ridley Scott (Director)

Best Known For: Directing Alien, Thelma and Louise and Gladiator.
Early-life: Born on November 30, 1937, in South Shields, Tyne and Wear. He spent most of his free time drawing or watching movies. He trained at West Hartlepool Art School and the Royal College of Art, where he developed a passion for film-making. His student project, Boy On A Bicycle, won much acclaim. His brother Tony is the director of Top Gun and True Romance. Their older sibling, Frank, died of cancer in 1980.
Career: Scott worked as a designer, then as a director, on TV shows Z Cars, Softly Softly and Adam Adamant Lives. He set up his own company in the 1960s, which made classic adverts for Hovis and Guinness. His first film was 1977's The Duellists. Two years later he made Alien, which was a blockbuster. He's since directed a number of hugely successful movies including Blade Runner, Thelma and Louise, GI Jane, Gladiator, Hannibal, Black Hawk Down and Matchstick Men. The success of these projects made him Britain's most lucrative film-maker. His most recent work includes Kingdom Of Heaven, American Gangster, Robin Hood and Prometheus. He always has several films in various stages of production.
