Early-life:
Brandon James Routh was born on October 9, 1979, in Des Moines, Iowa, and grew up in nearby Norwalk. As a child he was a huge Superman fan, and read every Man of Steel comic he could get his hands on. After attending the University of Iowa, he honed his craft at the Norwalk Theatre of Performing Arts. His first professional acting role was in 1999 TV series Odd Man Out, and he went on to guest star in the series Gilmore Girls and Undressed.
Career:
Routh graduated from US soap opera One Life To Live, and went on to appear in TV hits Cold Case and Will & Grace. He also popped up in the projects Oliver Beene, Awesometown, Karla and Denial. In 2006 he played the title role in blockbuster Superman Returns. He has worked steadily ever since in hit-and-miss films such as Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Life is Hot in Cracktown, Table for Three, Unthinkable and Scott Pilgrim vs the World. On TV he had a recurring role on NBC action comedy Chuck.

Kevin Spacey Fowler was born on July 26, 1959, in South Orange, New Jersey, but was raised in Los Angeles. He's the youngest of three children. His father wrote technical manuals for aircraft; his mother was a secretary. Spacey's bad behaviour led his parents to send him to Northridge Military Academy, but he was expelled for hitting a classmate with a tyre. He later channelled his energies into amateur dramatics and went to school with Mare Winningham and Val Kilmer.
Career:
Spacey performed stand-up comedy before Kilmer encouraged him to study acting at the Juilliard School. He dropped out two years later, but soon made his Broadway debut in Henry V. He understudied Harvey Keitel in a production of Hurlyburly for director Mike Nichols. The latter then gave him roles in the movies Heartburn and Working Girl. More theatre work followed, until in 1992 the film Glengarry Glen Ross made him an actor to watch. He's won Oscars for The Usual Suspects and American Beauty. Other acclaimed projects include Se7en and LA Confidential. Spacey also starred in Bobby Darin biopic Beyond the Sea, Superman Returns and The Men Who Stare at Goats. He has been the artistic director of London's Old Vic theatre since 2004.

Born Catherine Ann Bosworth in Los Angeles on January 2, 1983, Kate is the only child of Patricia and Harold. She moved a lot during her youth due to her father's job at a fashion retailer. She originally wanted to be a competitive horse rider. She attended an open audition in New York for a movie about horses - Robert Redford's The Horse Whisperer - and ended up landing the role of the female lead's best friend.
Career:
In 2000, Bosworth starred in short-lived TV drama Young Americans. After relocating to Los Angeles, she landed a breakthrough role in surfing movie Blue Crush (2002). Roles followed in The Rules of Attraction (2002), Wonderland (2003) and Win a Date with Tad Hamilton (2004). She gained worldwide recognition in 2006 when she played Lois Lane in Superman Returns.

James Paul Marsden was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on September 18, 1973. His parents divorced when he was nine. He has two sisters and two brothers. He studied broadcast journalism at Oklahoma State University for one and a half years before dropping out to move to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.
Career:
Marsden's first acting job was in the pilot episode of sitcom The Nanny in 1993. A year later, he starred in Canadian TV series Boogies Diner. His big break came in 1996 when he landed the lead role in ABC drama Second Noah. He went on to star in the films Disturbing Behaviour (1998) and Gossip (2000) and joined the cast of TV comedy drama Ally McBeal in its final season. Since then he has filled out his CV by playing Cyclops in three hugely popular X-Men movies and starring in Superman Returns (2006), Hairspray (2007), Enchanted (2007), 27 Dresses (2008), Death at a Funeral (2010), Bachelorette (2012) and 2 Guns (2013). He also had a recurring role in sitcom 30 Rock.

Frank A Langella Jr was born in New Jersey on January 1, 1938. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1959 with a degree in drama. He made his Broadway debut in a 1966 production of Yerma. He followed this with a role in A Cry of Players.
Career:
Despite a career largely spent on the stage, Langella has appeared in a number of films, including Diary of a Mad Housewife (1970), Dracula (1979), Superman Returns (2006), Frost/Nixon (2008), Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010), and Robot & Frank (2012). He won his first Tony Award on Broadway for his 1975 performance in Seascape. Other wins came in 2002 for Fortune's Fool, and in 2007 for Frost/Nixon.
