At first it appears to have been a suicide, but when it is revealed his body was covered in anti-seasickness patches to induce drowsiness, it becomes clear it was murder

Early-life: Vincent Phillip D'Onofrio was born on June 30, 1959, in Brooklyn, New York. His father was an interior designer, his sister is an acting coach. The family moved a lot, so he grew up in places such as Hawaii, Colorado and Miami. On leaving school he returned to the Big Apple to study at the Actors Studio. To make ends meet, he appeared in student films and became a bouncer.
Career: Following his debut movie, The First Turn-On, in 1983, D'Onofrio became a member of the American Stanislavski Theatre Company and appeared in acclaimed productions of The Petrified Forest, Of Mice and Men, and Sexual Perversity in Chicago. His Broadway debut came in 1984's Open Admissions, and he hasn't looked back since. Films include Full Metal Jacket (for which he gained 70 pounds to play troubled Private Pyle), JFK, Malcolm X, Ed Wood, Men in Black, and The Cell. In 2001, D'Onofrio began playing Detective Robert Goren in TV series Law & Order: Criminal Intent. He quit the role in season nine, but returned in the final season of eight episodes.

Trivia: He gained 45lbs for his role in The Salton Sea (2002).

Best Known For: Playing Detective Alexandra Eames in Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
Early-life: Born July 5, 1966, in Massachusetts, USA. Kathryn developed a passion for acting at an early age and graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 1990. She became a member of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 1993, which her ex-husband Terry Kinney co-founded with CSI: NY star Gary Sinise and Grey's Anatomy's Jeff Perry. Made her movie debut in little-seen 1989 offering, Runaway Dreams. The same year she appeared in TV series Chicken Soup.
Career: Erbe was nominated for a 1991 Tony Award as Best Actress in Broadway play The Speed of Darkness. The same year she appeared in the Bill Murray movie What About Bob. A string of hit and miss projects followed, including Rich in Love, Breathing Lessons, D2: The Mighty Ducks, Kiss of Death and The Addiction. She gave a memorable turn in the Kevin Bacon chiller Stir of Echoes and had a recurring role in the TV series Oz. In 2001, Erbe landed the part of Detective Alexandra Eames in Law & Order: Criminal Intent and went on to star in more than 140 episodes.

Early-life: Born July 12, 1951, in Pasadena, California. Early dreams of being a professional dancer were scuppered when Jamey developed a knee injury. He opted for an acting career instead and made his professional stage debut in 1978. Made his small-screen debut in the 1981 TV movie Mystery at Fire Island, and three years later he landed a role in hit medical drama St Elsewhere.
Career: Went on to appear in the TV offerings One Police Plaza, Spenser For Hire, Chicago Hope and a miniseries based on Stephen King's The Stand. Big-screen roles have included Jumpin' Jack Flash, The House on Carroll Street, Stanley & Iris, Quick Change, The Ice Storm and Syriana. Has won acclaim for his appearances in Broadway productions Biloxi Blues, and God of Hell. He earned a Tony nomination for his role in Arthur Miller's All My Sons. Between 2001 and 2006, Jamey played Captain James Deakins in hit drama series Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Early-life: Courtney Bernard Vance was born on March 12, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan. He attended the Detroit Country Day School and later graduated from Harvard with a bachelor of arts degree. He continued his education at the Yale School of Drama where he received a Master of Fine Arts degree, but during his college years also began working professionally at the Boston Shakespeare Company.
Career: After earning two Tony Award nominations, he launched what would become a long and varied screen career. A memorable turn as Doc Johnson in the Vietnam war film Hamburger Hill in 1987 helped him land roles in the acclaimed movie The Hunt for Red October and TV dramas thirtysomething and In the Line of Duty: Street War. Splitting his time between the stage and screen, he built up a loyal following of devoted fans. By the mid-1990s, job offers were rolling in. Other film credits include Dangerous Minds, The Preacher's Wife, Cookie's Fortune and Space Cowboys. In 2001 he joined the cast of the Law & Order sister series Criminal Intent, the show which made him a household name. He played Assistant District Attorney Ron Carver for five years, appearing in 111 episodes. Since leaving Criminal Intent, he has starred in the TV series ER, FlashForward and The Closer, and the film Extraordinary Measures.
