Tom Hanks (Actor) .. Sam Baldwin
Born: July 09, 1956 in California
Best Known For: Winning Oscars for Forrest Gump and Philadelphia
Early-life: Born in California in 1956, Tom Hanks grew up in what he calls a "fractured" family. His parents were pioneers in the development of marriage dissolution law in that state, and Tom moved around a lot, living with a succession of step-families. Eager for a career in acting, he auditioned for a community theater play, was invited by the director of that play to go to Cleveland, and there his acting career started.
Career: After several TV roles, Hanks made the transition to movies and became one of the biggest stars of the past three decades. His breakthrough came in 1984's Splash, and was followed by hit after hit, including Bachelor Party and Dragnet. When he took the lead in Oscar-nominated Big in 1988, he transformed a simple comedy into something much more powerful, before truly proving his acting credentials with an Oscar-winning turn as an Aids-afflicted laweyer in Philadeplhia. He gave terrific turns in romantic comedies like Sleepless in Seattle, then another Oscar followed for Forrest Gump. Many expected him to garner a third for Saving Private Ryan. He has been a successful director of several projects and helped bring iconic TV projects like Band of Brothers to the screen. Recent hits include The Da Vinci Code and its follow-up, and the Toy Story films.
Quote: "My wife keeps on telling me my worst fault is that I keep things to myself and appear relaxed. But I am really in a room in my own head and not hearing a thing anyone is saying."
Meg Ryan (Actor) .. Annie Reed
Born: November 19, 1961 in Fairfield, Connecticut
Best Known For: When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle.
Early-life: Born Margaret Mary Emily Anne Hyra on November 19, 1961, in Fairfield, Connecticut, USA. She is the daughter of casting agents, who divorced in 1976. She has two sisters and a brother. After graduating from high school, she enrolled in a journalism course at New York University. To make ends meet, she began auditioning for small acting roles, using her new moniker - Ryan is her mother's maiden name.
Career: Ryan made her film debut in 1981's Rich and Famous, opposite Candice Bergen. She became a famous face on US TV thanks to a two-year stint on soap As the World Turns. International recognition followed her role in 1986's Top Gun. A year later, Innerspace consolidated her position as a rising star. When Harry Met Sally made her a force to be reckoned with in 1989, and since then, she's appeared in such blockbusters as Sleepless in Seattle, French Kiss, You've Got Mail and controversial thriller In the Cut. Recent projects include The Deal, My Mom's New Boyfriend and The Women.
Quote: "People say that chivalry is dead. I don't think that it's dead, I think it's just got the flu."
Trivia: Was offered the role of "Molly Jensen" in Ghost (1990), but turned it down. The part later went to Demi Moore.
Bill Pullman (Actor) .. Walter
Born: December 17, 1953 in New York
Best Known For: Playing the US president in Independence Day.
Early-life: William James Pullman was born December 17, 1953 in Hornell, New York. He graduated from Hornell High School in 1971 and attended the State University of New York. He received his Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts. Bill worked with theatre companies around New York and Los Angeles, making his mark in hit 1986 comedy Ruthless People.
Career: Mel Brooks thought Bill would be perfect to play the dashing lead in his 1987 spoof Spaceballs, and he went on to star in The Serpent and the Rainbow, Casper and While You Were Sleeping. However, his biggest hit was 1996 blockbuster Independence Day. David Lynch cast him in offbeat drama Lost Highway, and he also shone in cult horror Lake Placid, Ant and Dec comedy Alien Autospy, and Michael Winterbottom's controversial drama The Killer Inside Me. More recent movies include Bringing Up Bobby and Celestina. He received rave reviews for his portrayal of a twisted killer in Torchwood: Miracle Day.
