Morgan Freeman (Actor) .. Keith Ripley
Born: June 01, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee
Best Known For: That trademark voice.
Early-life: Born Morgan Porterfield Freeman on June 1, 1937, the son of a cleaner and a barber in Memphis, Tennessee. Freeman has three older siblings and was partly raised by his paternal grandmother. He was bitten by the acting bug at eight when he starred in a school play. At 12 he won a state-wide drama competition. Morgan turned down the chance to study drama at university to join the US Air Force. He left after four years and began concentrating on an acting career, starting out on stage in the early 1960s.
Career: Freeman's first credited big-screen appearance was in 1971's Who Says I Can't Ride a Rainbow?, before he landed a regular role on children's show The Electric Company. In the mid-1980s, Freeman started getting more prominent roles in movies. Among his biggest hits have been Driving Miss Daisy, The Shawshank Redemption, Se7en, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Glory, Amistad, Deep Impact and Bruce Almighty. He is also an in-demand voice-over artist, lending his dulcet tones to sci-fi blockbuster War of the Worlds and the Oscar-winning documentary March of the Penguins. Freeman received an Academy Award of his own for his supporting role in Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby. A prolific actor, he has more recently appeared in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy and always has several films in pre-production.
Quote: "I'm not intimidated by lead roles. I'm better in them. I don't feel pressure - I feel released at times like that. That's what I'm born to do."
Trivia: He worked as a mechanic in the US Air Force.
Antonio Banderas (Actor) .. Gabriel Martin
Born: August 10, 1960 in Málaga, Andalucia, Spain
Best Known For: A string of magnificent action-movies.
Early-life: Born José Antonio Domínguez Banderas in Málaga, Andalucia, Spain, on August 10, 1960. His father was a policeman with the Spanish Civil Guard and his mother was a teacher. He wanted to play football professionally and was the star of his school team until he was 14, when he broke his foot. He studied acting at the School of Dramatic Art in Málaga, and made his debut at a small theatre in the town. In 1981 he moved to Madrid to pursue his acting career.
Career: In 1992, Banderas made his Hollywood debut with The Mambo Kings. Because he didn't then speak English, his dialogue was taught to him phonetically. He shot to international fame with his sensitive performance as Tom Hanks' lover in Philadelphia, then played opposite Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in Interview with the Vampire in 1994. He established himself as one of Hollywood's leading men after co-starring with Madonna in Evita in 1996. In 1998 he won acclaim for his performance in Zorro, opposite Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and later returned to the role in The Legend of Zorro. In 1999 he made his directorial debut in Crazy in Alabama and showed his comic ability as the voice of Puss in Boots in the Shrek franchise and its spin-off. He is a hugely busy actor.
Quote: "I don't believe in careers, I just picture myself always as one of those old actors from the 19th century who go from village to village in their repertoire."
