Early-life: Greta Celeste Gerwig was born in Sacramento, California, on August 4, 1983 to Christine and Gordon. She attended Bernard College in New York, where she studied English and philosophy. While studying at Bernard, she had a minor role in Joe Swanberg's independent movie LOL (2006).

Career: In 2010, Gerwig starred alongside Ben Stiller in the low-budget comedy drama Greenberg. Other film credits include No Strings Attached (2011) and Arthur (2011) and the title role in the critically acclaimed Frances Ha (2012).
