Early-life:
Born Rose Arianna McGowan on September 5, 1973, in Florence, Italy, to an Irish father and an American mother. She is the second oldest of six children and worked as a model from an early age. The family moved to Oregon, USA, when McGowan was nine. In her teens her unusual sense of style marked her out from the crowd. She later ran away from home after her parents became involved with a cult known as Children of God, and went to live in Los Angeles.
Career:
McGowan made her TV debut in an episode of True Colors in 1992. Her first movie, Encino Man, was released the same year. Her friendship with director Gregg Araki landed her a role in his film The Doom Generation in 1995. She has since appeared in such movies as Scream, Phantoms, Ready to Rumble and Vacuums. Her big break came when she bagged the role of Paige Matthews in Charmed. Since then she's starred in The Black Dahlia, Grindhouse - Planet Terror, Grindhouse - Death Proof, Fifty Dead Men Walking, and Machete. She returned to the big screen in the summer of 2011 in the remake of Conan the Barbarian.
