Early-life: Michael David Rapaport was born on March 20, 1970, in New York. He is the son of radio personality June Brody and radio station manager David Rapaport. As a youth, he idolised some of the Big Apple's most famous actors, such as Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken. Disinterested in high school, he was eventually expelled before moving to LA to try his hand at being a stand-up comedian. He had minor success as a live comic, but soon switched to a career in front of the camera and started to concentrate on acting.

Career: After a guest spot on TV show China Beach, offers of film work began coming in. Among Rapaport's early credits are indie film Zebrahead, The Assassin, which starred Bridget Fonda, and Poetic Justice, which featured Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur. Since then, the actor has managed to work on both the small and silver screen, with appearances in dramas such as NYPD Blue and ER, and films like Woody Allen vehicle Mighty Aphrodite, Cop Land, Deep Blue Sea, Dr Doolittle 2 and Hitch among many others. In 2005, he was cast as Dave Gold in sitcom The War at Home, which ran for two seasons. His recent work includes Live Free or Die, My Name Is Earl, Prison Break, A Day in the Life, and Accidentally on Purpose.

Trivia: As a youngster, he was a die-hard fan of Eddie Murphy and got to work with his idol in the film Metro (1997) and on Dr. Dolittle 2 (2001).
