Robert De Niro (Actor) .. Max Barber
Born: August 17, 1943 in New York
Best Known For: His films with Martin Scorsese.
Early-life: Born Robert De Niro Jr on August 17, 1943, in New York to artists Virginia and Robert De Niro Sr. They divorced when he was three. De Niro studied at the Little Red School House and the High School of Music and Art, but left high school at 16 to study acting at the Stella Adler Conservatory and the American Workshop - he'd been hooked on becoming an actor after playing the Cowardly Lion in a school production of The Wizard of Oz at the age of 10.
Career: De Niro made a handful of films in the 1960s and early 1970s, but it wasn't until 1973's Bang the Drum Slowly and Mean Streets (his first collaboration with Martin Scorsese) that his career took off. He received an Oscar for The Godfather Part II a year later and was nominated Academy Awards for Taxi Driver and The Deer Hunter, and took home his second Oscar for Raging Bull. The King of Comedy, Once Upon A Time in America, Brazil, The Mission, Angel Heart and The Untouchables followed. Over the past few decades, De Niro has made crowd pleasers such as Cape Fear, Casino, Heat, Meet the Parents and Analyze This, as well as directing A Bronx Tale and The Good Shepherd. He gave a fabulous comic performance in the fantasy movie Stardust, before starring alongside fellow big-screen icon Al Pacino in cop thriller Righteous Kill. His more recent films have included Silver Linings Playbook and The Family.
Quote: "I think Hollywood has a class system. The actors are like the inmates, but the truth is they're running the asylum."
Trivia: De Niro has also been instrumental in the revival of Manhattan's TriBeCa district; not only has he invested in the area, he helped found its film festival in 2002.
Tommy Lee Jones (Actor) .. Duke Montana
Born: September 15, 1946 in San Saba, Texas
Best Known For: The Men in Black movies and his Oscar-winning role in The Fugitive.
Early-life: Born in San Saba, Texas, on September 15, 1946. His father worked in the oil industry, his mother spent time as a police officer, teacher and beauty salon owner. They married and divorced twice. After graduating from high school, he attended Harvard College on a scholarship, where one of his room-mates was future American vice-president Al Gore. He was also a star American Football player for the university team.
Career: Jones landed an agent and a role in a Broadway production of A Patriot for Me just 10 days after graduating from Harvard in 1969. A year later he made his film debut in Love Story, based on Erich Segal's novel of the same name. Segal claimed he based the lead character of Oliver (played by Ryan O'Neal) on Jones and Gore. Jones then spent four years in soap opera One Life to Live. The film Coal Miner's Daughter made critics sit up and notice him in 1980. Acclaimed performances in Lonesome Dove, The Fugitive, JFK and Men in Black followed. Other well-received projects include No Country for Old Men, In the Valley of Elah (for which he received an Oscar nomination), Lincolm and The Homesman.
Quote: "It's no mean calling to bring fun into the afternoons of large numbers of people. That too is part of my job, and I'm happy to serve when called on."
Morgan Freeman (Actor) .. Reggie Fontaine
Born: June 01, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee
Best Known For: That trademark voice.
Early-life: Born Morgan Porterfield Freeman on June 1, 1937, the son of a cleaner and a barber in Memphis, Tennessee. Freeman has three older siblings and was partly raised by his paternal grandmother. He was bitten by the acting bug at eight when he starred in a school play. At 12 he won a state-wide drama competition. Morgan turned down the chance to study drama at university to join the US Air Force. He left after four years and began concentrating on an acting career, starting out on stage in the early 1960s.
Career: Freeman's first credited big-screen appearance was in 1971's Who Says I Can't Ride a Rainbow?, before he landed a regular role on children's show The Electric Company. In the mid-1980s, Freeman started getting more prominent roles in movies. Among his biggest hits have been Driving Miss Daisy, The Shawshank Redemption, Se7en, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Glory, Amistad, Deep Impact and Bruce Almighty. He is also an in-demand voice-over artist, lending his dulcet tones to sci-fi blockbuster War of the Worlds and the Oscar-winning documentary March of the Penguins. Freeman received an Academy Award of his own for his supporting role in Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby. A prolific actor, he has more recently appeared in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy and always has several films in pre-production.
Quote: "I'm not intimidated by lead roles. I'm better in them. I don't feel pressure - I feel released at times like that. That's what I'm born to do."
Trivia: He worked as a mechanic in the US Air Force.
Zach Braff (Actor) .. Walter Creason
Born: April 06, 1975 in New Jersey
Best Known For: Playing JD in Scrubs.
Early-life: Zachary Israel Braff was born on April 6, 1975, in South Orange, New Jersey, the youngest of four children. Despite an early dream of becoming a fireman, he decided to be an actor after seeing his lawyer father in an amateur dramatics production. At 11 he began attending a camp for young actors, and three years later made his TV debut opposite Gwyneth Paltrow in a pilot for an ill-fated TV show produced by her father Bruce Paltrow. Although disappointed, the experience didn't dissuade Braff and he returned to the theatre before graduating from Northwestern University with a degree in Film Studies.
Career: Braff appeared on the New York stage in Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and Twelfth Night. He played the son of Woody Allen and Diane Keaton in Manhattan Murder Mystery. He also appeared in little-known productions such as Getting to Know You, Blue Moon and Endsville before landing the role of JD in long-running sitcom Scrubs in 2001. Away from acting he has written and directed award-winning short films, as well as directing commercials and public service announcements. His first feature-length film as actor/writer/director, Garden State, was well-received in 2004. Since then, he has starred in The Last Kiss, The Pursuit of Happyness, The Ex, and The High Cost of Living. He toured the UK in 2012 in self-penned play All New People.
Quote: "The challenge of becoming a character that's totally different from who I am is what excites me about acting."
Trivia: In 2013, he raised money on Kickstarter to fund the film Wish I Was Here.
