Patrick Macnee (Actor) .. John Steed
Born: February 06, 1922 in London
Best Known For: Playing John Steed in The Avengers.
Early-life: Born Daniel Patrick Macnee on February 6, 1922, in London. His father was a successful racehorse trainer who gambled away his fortune and emigrated to India. His mother then divorced her husband and moved in with her lesbian lover in Wiltshire. Macnee attended Summer Fields prep school before enrolling at Eton. He made his film debut in 1938's Pygmalion, but his acting career was curtailed by a spell in the Navy during the Second World War.
Career: On his return from service, Macnee studied at the Webber Douglas School of Dramatic Art. Small roles in several films followed but, frustrated at the lack of opportunity in Britain, he emigrated to Canada, then moved to the US. He appeared in numerous TV plays and films before returning to the UK in 1959. Producing Winston Churchill: The Valiant Years brought him to the attention of TV bosses who, to his surprise, offered him the role of John Steed in The Avengers in 1961. He stayed with the popular series until it ended in 1969, but returned to the role in The New Avengers in 1976. Macnee also appeared in such movies as A View to a Kill, This Is Spinal Tap and The Sea Wolves. He died on June 25, 2015.
Quote: "I haven't really accomplished anything. The most accomplished thing I've done is to have lived this long."
Trivia: Macnee became a US citizen in 1959.
Diana Rigg (Actor) .. Emma Peel
Born: July 20, 1938 in Doncaster
Best Known For: Being a 1960s icon.
Early-life: Born Enid Diana Elizabeth Rigg on July 20, 1938, in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, but spent her early years in India. At the age of eight she was sent back to England to attend boarding school in Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire. She later transferred to Fulneck School in West Yorkshire where she developed her love of acting, inspiring her to audition for a place at RADA in 1955; she made her professional stage debut the same year.
Career: In 1959, Rigg signed a five-year contract with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Her move to TV came in 1965 when she was offered the role of Emma Peel in The Avengers, but the demand for interviews and photographs proved too much, forcing her to quit in 1967. She went on to star in various movies, including On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Julius Caesar and The Great Muppet Caper, but by the 1980s her screen success was fading. However, she returned to form in 1989 in the award-winning miniseries Mother Love, and has appeared continually on stage, film and TV ever since. In 2013, she made a memorable Doctor Who villain alongside Matt Smith and her real-life daughter Rachael Stirling, and has a regular role in the acclaimed Game of Thrones.
Quote: "You go your own way - you think, ‘That's what I want to do, it gives me pleasure' - the rest of the world can swing on by."
Trivia: She was made a Dame in 1994.
Charlotte Rampling (Actor) .. Hana
Born: February 05, 1946 in Sturmer, Essex
Best Known For: Her 1960s heyday.
Early-life: Born Tessa Charlotte Rampling on February 5, 1946, in Sturmer, Essex. Her mother Isabel was a painter, while her father, Geoffrey, was an Olympic gold medalist and an army officer. Her older sister, Sarah, committed suicide at the age of 23 in 1966. After attending school in France and Hertforshire, Charlotte began working as a model and made her first screen appearance while water skiing in the film The Knack... and How to Get It in 1965.
Career: In 1966, Rampling landed the role of Meredith in Georgy Girl, and hasn't looked back since. Many fans hoped she'd replace Diana Rigg in The Avengers following a spirited guest role in the show in 1967, but instead she tackled a number of difficult roles in challenging films, including The Damned, The Night Porter and Max Mon Amour. More mainstream projects have included Farewell My Lovely, Stardust Memories and The Verdict. Rampling has lived in France for some time and in recent years has concentrated on working there in such films as Swimming Pool and Heading South. However, she also cropped up in Basic Instinct 2 and The Duchess.
Quote: "I generally don't make films to entertain people. I choose the parts that challenge me to break through my own barriers. To discover what normal means, you have to surf a tide of weirdness."
Trivia: In 2000, she was awarded an OBE.
Brian Blessed (Actor) .. Mark Dayton
Born: October 09, 1937 in Mexborough, South Yorkshire
Best Known For: His booming voice.
Early-life: Born October 9, 1937, in Mexborough, South Yorkshire, but grew up the son of a coal miner in nearby Goldthorpe. He developed a passion for exploring as a youngster, but was bitten by the acting bug in his teens and appeared in many amateur dramatic productions alongside the likes of Keith Barron and Patrick Stewart. He left school at 14 and helped support his family via a variety of jobs after his father was injured in an accident at work. Brian eventually joined the Bristol Old Vic, where he studied with Peter O'Toole.
Career: Blessed started out on the stage, but gained fame playing Fancy Smith in Z Cars from 1962 to 1965. He's rarely been out of work since and has tackled a wide variety of roles on TV, stage and in films. Among his most memorable projects are Henry VIII and his Six Wives, I, Claudius, Flash Gordon, The Black Adder, Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing and Hamlet. More recently, he featured in Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace and Oliver Stone's Alexander. In 2014, he was the subject of an edition of Who Do You Think You Are? He is in constant demand for voiceover work.
Quote: "We're frightened of silence. We all need 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness, like Jesus Christ."
Trivia: Away from showbusiness, Blessed has attempted to scale Everest on numerous occasions and recorded directions for a satnav device after a campaign by his fans on a social networking site.

Hugh Manning (Actor) .. Max Hardy
Donald Sutherland (Actor) .. Jessel
Born: July 17, 1935 in Saint John, Canada
Best Known For: MASH, Don't Look Now and Kelly's Heroes.
Early-life: Donald McNichol Sutherland was born on July 17, 1935, in Saint John, Canada, and was raised in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. He became a DJ at the age of 14 on a local radio station, before studying engineering and drama at the University of Toronto, where he was evicted from his lodgings after hurling a sink out of a window. More recently he's featured in Dirty Sexy Money, Astro Boy (as the voice of President Stone), The Hunger Games and The Pillars of the Earth.
