Early-life:
Thomas Robert Daley was born in Plymouth on May 21, 1994. He started diving at an early age and won a medal in his first competition at the National Novice Championships in April 2003. He went on to win his age group at the British Championships in the 1m springboard, the 3m springboard and the platform in 2004, 2005 and 2006. He met the qualification standard for the 2006 Commonwealth Games but he was not selected because of his age.
Career:
At the age of 12, Daley competed at the 2007 Australian Youth Olympic Festival and won a silver medal with synchro-partner Callum Johnstone in the 10m synchronised-diving final. Daley had been given special dispensation to compete in the event as the usual minimum age is 15. He went on to win gold medals at the World Championships, European Championships and the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Expectations were high ahead of his appearances at the London 2012 Olympics. He left with a bronze medal in the individual 10m platform event. He won a gold and a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Away from competitive diving, Daley has been an expert advisor to celebrity contestants on ITV reality series Splash!

Daley persuaded supermodel Kate Moss to pose for a portrait by David Hockney as part of a GCSE photography project after meeting her on a photo shoot for the Italian version of Vogue.
