Early-life: Born April 23, 1962, in East Kilbride, Scotland. He's the youngest of three children and has two older sisters. Hannah started his working life as an electrician and also spent time on a market stall before turning to acting on the advice of a friend: 'I was always rabbiting on about something or other,' says Hannah. 'He said: 'You may as well get paid for talking. Why don't you take it up?'' He then enrolled at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow.

Career: Hannah's TV debut came in 1987's Brond. He continued to work on the small screen in such projects as Bookie, Harbour Beat, Taggart, and Paul Calf's Video Diary, and in the theatre, until Four Weddings and a Funeral catapulted him to stardom in 1994. Small screen success followed with Out of the Blue and McCallum. He also starred in Rebus, which was made by his own company, Clerkenwell Films. His movie hits include Sliding Doors, The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, and The Hurricane. Other credits include Sea of Souls, Cold Blood, Spartacus: War of the Damned, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, Damages and A Touch of Cloth.

Trivia: He has supported the Epilepsy Association of Scotland and Oxfam's Cut Conflict Campaign. His nephew, Rory Hannah, is also an actor.

Best Known For: Playing Mel in EastEnders.

Early-life: Tamzin Outhwaite was born on November 5, 1970, in Ilford, Essex. Her mother is Italian. She discovered her love of performing at a young age and would put on plays with her two younger brothers. She became involved with local amateur dramatics in her teens and admits that her schoolwork suffered, although she always did well in drama. After taking her O-levels at 16, Outhwaite signed up for a three-year acting course at the London Studio Centre, where she was voted Most Outstanding All-Rounder.

Career: Outhwaite took small parts in various West End productions and also appeared on TV in The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Her big break came in 1997, when dramatist Alan Ayckbourn spotted her in the chorus of a musical and offered her the lead role in his play Absent Friends. She then played the part of Melanie Healy in EastEnders for three years. Since leaving Walford, she has starred in the dramas Red Cap and Final Demand, and won rave reviews for her performance as a single mum in the improvised drama Out of Control. Other work includes an appearance in Fast Freddie, The Widow and Me, Doctor Who and Marple. She has also appeared on the stage in revivals of Boeing Boeing and Sweet Charity, and is the lead actress in New Tricks.

Alistair McGowan (Actor) .. Vince

Born: November 21, 1964 in Evesham, Worcestershire

Best Known For: Imitating stars.

Early-life: Alistair Charles McGowan was born in Evesham, Worcestershire, on November 21, 1964. He credits his parents for starting him on the impressionist path. Alistair studied English at Leeds University with the intention of becoming a journalist, but became hooked on drama. After graduating, he went to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where his contemporaries included Rhys Ifans and Geraldine Somerville.

Career: McGowan's professional debut came in The Pied Piper at Worcester. He began appearing in clubs as a stand-up comedian in 1989. A stint on Radio 4's Week Ending led to him spending four years on Spitting Image. Other radio work includes The Harpoon, The Nick Revell Show, First Impressions, The Game's Up and Just a Minute. His own TV show, Big Impression, came in 1999, for which he picked up a Royal Society award for entertainment performance. McGowan has also starred in TV's Preston Front, The Dark Ages, Mayo and Bleak House. He enjoys a successful stage career too, popping up in acclaimed productions of Little Shop of Horrors, Cabaret and The Mikado. More recently, he has starred in TV movie Pete & Dud: The Lost Sketches, Little Crackers, Skins, and Leonardo. He returned to stand-up in 2013 with his Not Just a Pretty Voice tour.

Trivia: In 2011, McGowan became a patron of the Friends of Brandwood End Cemetery, where more than 30 members of his extended family are interred.

Denise Welch (Actor) .. Ziggy

Born: May 22, 1958 in Ebchester, Co Durham

Best Known For: Being a former Loose Woman.

Early-life: Born Jacqueline Denise Welch on May 22, 1958, in Ebchester, Co Durham. Her father ran the now defunct Welch's Toffee Company and also performed as a drag act, and her mother was a nurse. Denise enjoyed acting in school productions, but was all set to go to teacher training college until her father and drama teacher convinced her to apply to the Mountview Theatre School instead. She studied there for three years, and began winning stage roles shortly after graduation.

Career: Denise starred in a variety of hit TV dramas including Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Byker Grove, Soldier Soldier and Spender before landing the part of Natalie in Coronation Street in 1997. She stayed on the soap opera for four years but left when she discovered she was pregnant with her second child. She was asked to present This Morning following the departure of Richard and Judy, but turned the offer down. She went on to make appearances in TV shows The Vice, Born and Bred, and Down to Earth, before joining the cast of Waterloo Road. The actress has also hit the charts with the singles You Don't Have to Say You Love Me and Cry Me A River. She was a panellist on Loose Women between 2002 and 2013. In August 2013, she was a contestant on ITV's dancing reality series Stepping Out.

Quote: 'I do know that I feel a better wife and better mum the way I lead my life now. That's the wonderful thing - I have two fantastic kids and we're doing really well.'

Trivia: Her autobiography, Pulling Myself Together, was published in 2010.
