Nicolas Cage (Actor) .. Cameron Poe
Born: January 07, 1964 in Long Beach, California
Best Known For: The National Treasures movies.
Early-life: Nicolas Kim Coppola was born in Long Beach, California, on January 7, 1964. His mum, Joy Vogelsang, was a successful choreographer, and his dad, August, was a literature professor and the brother of director Francis Ford Coppola and Rocky star Talia Shire. Cage discovered his passion for acting while still in his teens, and studied theatre at Beverly Hills High. He made his feature film debut in Fast Times at Ridgemont High in 1982, but most of his scenes were cut. He made ends meet selling popcorn.
Career: Cage changed his name from Coppola to Cage (inspired by Marvel comic hero Luke Cage) so he could achieve success in his own right. However, he got some of his earliest breaks in the movies Rumble Fish, The Cotton Club and Peggy Sue Got Married, which were directed by his uncle Francis. The actor won critical acclaim for films including Raising Arizona, Moonstruck and Wild at Heart, before picking up an Oscar in 1995 for his portrayal of an alcoholic in Leaving Las Vegas. After that, he branched out into action films, making Con Air, The Rock and Face/Off, but returned to his offbeat roots with movies like Adaptation, Lord of War, The Weather Man and World Trade Center. Since then he has made a string of big-budget movies, including National Treasure: Book of Secrets (a sequel to his 2004 hit National Treasure), The Sorcerer's Apprentice, and Season of the Witch. His 2011 film Drive Angry was a box-office flop, but he always has a number of films in the pipeline.
Quote: "Sometimes I choose movies that can help me like therapy - you do something positive with a negative emotion."
Trivia: In 2001, Cage was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts by California State University, Fullerton.
John Malkovich (Actor) .. Cyrus `the Virus" Grissom
Best Known For: His intense stare.
Early-life: John Gavin Malkovich was born on December 9, 1953, in Illinois. His father, Daniel, was a conservation director and publisher of Outdoor Illinois magazine; his mother, Joe Anne, owned local newspaper the Benton Evening News. He has four siblings. Malkovich became hooked on acting at school, and after majoring in theatre at university, joined Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company, which had recently been formed by his friend, Gary Sinise.
Career: In 1980 Malkovich moved to New York to further his career, and won great acclaim in 1984 for his performance opposite Dustin Hoffman in Death of a Salesman. Early films include Places in the Heart, The Killing Fields and Empire of the Sun, but it was 1988's Dangerous Liaisons that made him a star. Further plaudits came for Of Mice and Men and In the Line of Fire. He played a version of himself in Being John Malkovich. He continues to appear on both stage and screen in a variety of projects, including blockbuster hits RED and its sequel, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
Quote: "I still don't know if I made the right decision when I went into acting. I have driven school buses, sold egg rolls and painted houses, and I have often wondered what my life would have been like if I hadn't gone into acting. Mind you, it's a great life."
Trivia: In June, an elderly man tripped on a Toronto street and slashed his neck on some scaffolding. Malkovich saved his life by applying pressue to the wound until he could receive medical help.
John Cusack (Actor) .. Vince Larkin
Born: June 28, 1966 in Evanston, Illinois
Best Known For: Grosse Pointe Blank.
Early-life: John Paul Cusack was born on June 28, 1966, in Chicago. His mother was a maths teacher, but the rest of his family were involved in showbiz. His father was an actor and documentary film-maker, and all four of John's siblings are thespians - he's worked with his older sister Joan on many occasions. When he was eight, John joined the Piven Theatre Workshop, which was run by the parents of his friend and future Mr Selfridge star Jeremy Piven, and by the time he was 12 he was working professionally.
Career: Cusack made his film debut at 16 in Class and went on become a 1980s teen film regular, starring in the likes of Sixteen Candles, Stand By Me, The Sure Thing and Say Anything, before moving on to more adult fare with the 1990 movie The Grifters. He continued to work steadily, but his career really took off again in 1997, when he starred in the blockbuster Con Air and the acclaimed Grosse Pointe Blank, which he also co-wrote and co-produced. Since then, his credits include Being John Malkovich, High Fidelity, America's Sweethearts, Serendipty, 2012 and The Raven.
Quote: "I suppose I have a certain thing I do well that people seem to like. Not everyone likes it, of course."
Trivia: Enjoys kick-boxing in his spare time.
Steve Buscemi (Actor) .. Garland Greene
Born: December 13, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York
Best Known For: Reservoir Dogs and Boardwalk Empire.
Early-life: Steven Vincent Buscemi was born on December 13, 1957, in Brooklyn, New York. He has three brothers; one of them, Michael, is also an actor. Their father John worked for New York's sanitation department. After graduating from high school, Buscemi studied liberal arts at Nassau Community College before dropping out. To make ends meet, he worked as a waiter, stand-up comedian, ice-cream seller, petrol station attendant and fireman while studying acting at Manhattan's Lee Strasberg Institute.
Career: Buscemi's early roles included several in experimental theatre, co-written by himself and fellow actor/writer Mark Boone Jr. He also appeared in Miami Vice, The Equalizer, and films The Way It Is, Tommy's and Parting Glances. He received excellent reviews for the latter, which led to parts in Lonesome Dove and New York Stories. He's since become a stalwart of indie movies thanks to his scene-stealing appearances in Reservoir Dogs, Miller's Crossing, Fargo and The Big Lebowski. Bigger-budget films include Armageddon, Con Air and The Wedding Singer. Buscemi has also written, directed, and produced several projects, and appeared in TV show The Sopranos. More recently he's played Enoch "Nucky" Thompson in acclaimed drama Boardwalk Empire, for which he won a Golden Globe in 2011.
Quote: "When I was a fireman I was in a lot of burning buildings. It was a great job, the only job I ever had that compares with the thrill of acting. Before going into a fire, there's the same surge of adrenaline you get just before the camera rolls."
Trivia: After 9/11, he returned to his old firefighting crew to help sift through the rubble of the World Trade Center.
Ving Rhames (Actor) .. Diamond Dog
Born: May 12, 1959 in New York
Best Known For: Pulp Fiction.
Early-life: Irving Rameses Rhames was born in New York City in 1959 and grew up in Harlem. A good student, he entered New York's School of Performing Arts, where he discovered his love of acting. After high school, he studied drama where fellow acting student Stanley Tucci gave him his nickname "Ving". Rhames later transferred to Juilliard, where he began his career in New York theater.
Career: Rhames first appeared on Broadway in the play The Winter Boys in 1984. Ving continued his rise to fame through his work in soap operas. He found work as a supporting actor, and came to the attention of the general public by playing the role of Marsellus Wallace in Pulp Fiction (1994). Major hits like Con-Air and the three Mission Impossible movies followed. He won a Golden Globe in 1998 for best actor in a TV miniseries for his performance in HBO's Don King: Only in America - and memorably presented it to Jack Lemmon. Other hits include Bringing Out the dead and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. He played the title role in a short-lived remake of Kojak.
Quote: "My approach to the work is the same, whether I had the lead or a supporting role. I consider myself a character actor in the true sense of the word. Unless I'm doing my autobiography, I'm playing a character."
