Early-life:
Born Edwina Cohen in Liverpool on October 13, 1946, but commonly known by her married name Edwina Currie. She studied philosophy, politics and economics at St Anne's College, Oxford, and later gained an MA in economic history from the London School of Economics. She represented the Birmingham ward of Northfield as a councillor from 1975 until 1986. In 1983, she was elected as a member of parliament for South Derbyshire.
Career:
As an MP, Currie rose to the rank of junior health minister in 1986 but she was forced to resign when comments she made about salmonella caused egg sales to drop by 60 per cent. In 1991, she became the first Conservative MP to appear on the panel show Have I Got News for You. After 14 years as an MP, she lost her parliamentary seat in the 1997 general election. Her diaries, published in 2002, revealed a four-year affair with John Major between 1984 and 1988. Away from politics, Currie was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2011. She was the first celebrity to be eliminated. In November 2014, she entered the jungle as a contestant on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

Trivia:
Currie released her first novel, A Parliamentary Affair, in 1994. She has released a number of further novels since then.
