Best Known For: Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
Early-life: Christopher John Tarrant was born on October 10, 1946, in Reading, Berkshire, the only child of Joan and Basil Tarrant. His father taught him to fish at an early age, a hobby he has continued ever since. A shy child, he was privately educated and sent to King's School, Worcester, at the age of 13, where he excelled at sport, particularly cricket and hockey. His experiences at the institution helped him come out of his shell.
Career: After attending Birmingham University, Tarrant wrote a series of letters to TV companies which stated 'I am the face of the 1970s and you should snap me up now'. Eventually he landed a reporting job on ATV, before presenting Saturday morning children's show Tiswas from 1974 until 1981. In the 1980s he took on some entertainment slots on TV-am and began a long career as a DJ with London's Capital FM. Small-screen work has included his own show, Tarrant on TV, The Main Event, Man O Man, and of course, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, which became a global phenomenon. He has recently branched out into documentaries with Chris Tarrant - Extreme Railways, and Chris Tarrant Goes Fishing.
Quote: 'I've been a wage slave for years. I now feel I can take the time in my life to do things I have always wanted to do.'

Alex Ferguson (Contestant)
Born: December 31, 1941 in Govan, Glasgow
Best Known For: His association with Manchester United.
Early-life: Alexander Chapman Ferguson was born in Govan, Glasgow, on December 31, 1941. He was a Glasgow Rangers supporter as a boy. His father worked in the shipbuilding industry, and he has a younger brother called Martin. On leaving school, Alex began working at the Clyde shipyards as an apprentice tool-worker, playing amateur football as a striker for Queen's Park. Despite being a prolific goalscorer, he couldn't command a regular place in the team, so moved first to St Johnstone.
Career: In 1964, after scoring a hat trick against Rangers, Dunfermline signed him, making him a full-time professional footballer. After one disappointing season, Ferguson scored 45 goals in 51 games, and was snapped up by Rangers in 1967. He later played for Falkirk and Ayr United before retiring in 1974. His first managerial posts were at East Stirlingshire and St Mirren. He had major success with Aberdeen after taking over in 1978, winning trophies at home and in Europe. Ferguson was offered posts at several other clubs before accepting the Manchester United job in 1986. Despite a shaky start to his reign, he went on to win 38 trophies, including 13 Premier League and two UEFA Champions League titles. He retired as manager of Manchester United in May 2013 but remained at the club as a director and club ambassador. In January 2014, he was appointed as the UEFA Coaching Ambassador and in April of the same year, it was announced he would lecture on a course at Harvard University.
