Early-life:
Russell was born in London in 1975 to David and Julie and brought up in Essex. He went on to study English at Middlesex University. In 2004, he enjoyed recognition as a stand-up comedian when he came second in So You Think You're Funny at the Edinburgh Festival.
Career:
A regular on TV screens, Kane has performed stand-up on Live at the Electric, Live at the Apollo and Comedy Central at the Comedy Store. He has also appeared on panel shows Mock the Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats and Argumental. Between 2009 and 2011, he co-hosted I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here Now for ITV2. In 2010, he won the main Edinburgh Comedy Award for his show Smokescreens and Castles. His debut novel, The Humorist, was published in 2012. More recently, he presented the travel series Stupid Man, Smart Phone.

Trivia:
In 2011, Kane won a Children in Need edition of Celebrity Mastermind. His specialist subject was the novels of Evelyn Waugh.
