Edward Woodward (Actor) .. Sgt Neil Howie
Born: June 01, 1930 in Croydon, Surrey
Best Known For: The Wicker Man and The Equalizer.
Early-life: Edward Albert Arthur Woodward was born in Croydon, Surrey, on June 1, 1930. He knew from an early age he wanted to act. After leaving school at the age of 15, and following a spell at Kingston College, where he originally concentrated on journalism, he enrolled at Rada. A year later he began his professional acting career at the Castle Theatre in Farnham, before working across the UK in a wide variety of productions.
Career: Woodward made his West End debut in 1954 and continued to work on the stage throughout his career. His first film was 1955's Where There's a Will, and he had a recurring role in early ITV soap opera Emergency Ward 10 during the late 1950s. Productions such as Magnolia Street and Becket followed before spy series Callan made him a household name. It ended after a five-year run and a spin-off movie. Other memorable roles came in the movies The Wicker Man (1973), Breaker Morant (1980) and Who Dares Wins (1982) and the TV series The Equalizer and Common as Muck. In the last few years of his life, he appeared on the big screen in Hot Fuzz (2007) and on the small screen in The Bill and EastEnders. He died at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro on November 16, 2009, at the age of 79. He had been suffering from several illnesses, including pneumonia.
Quote: On the thieves who broke into his home on Christmas Eve 2004: "I wish I'd been there - I wanted to beat the living daylights out of them."
Trivia: He showed off his tenor voice by releasing a number of albums. He won a Golden Globe in 1987 for his role in The Equalizer.
Christopher Lee (Actor) .. Lord Summerisle
Born: May 27, 1922 in Belgravia, London
Best Known For: Playing Dracula.
Early-life: Born Christopher Frank Carandini Lee on May 27, 1922, in Belgravia, London, the son of an Italian aristocrat and a soldier. He had an older sister, Xandra, whose daughter is actress Harriet Walter. When their parents divorced, the children were raised by their mother and her second husband, a banker. Lee attended Wellington College, then worked in a London shipping office before serving in the RAF during the Second World War. On being demobbed, he was snapped up by Rank Studios, but failed to get a big break, appearing instead in several small roles.
Career: Lee hit the big time in 1957 when his formidable height landed him the role of the monster in Hammer's The Curse of Frankenstein. It marked the beginning of his horror movie partnership with Peter Cushing, which also included such films as Dracula, The Mummy, and The Gorgon. Lee went on to become one of the world's most prolific actors. Star Wars episodes II and III and The Lord of the Rings introduced him to a new generation of fans. Other significant titles include The Wicker Man, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Gremlins II, The Man with the Golden Gun and The Golden Compass. He also appeared in Alice in Wonderland, Burke and Hare, Season of the Witch and The Hobbit. He died on June 7, 2015, at the age of 93 due to respiratory problems and heart failure.
Quote: "There are many vampires in the world today - you only have to think of the film business."
Trivia: Lee was knighted in 2009. Away from acting, he was an accomplished singer and had an intriguing sideline as a heavy metal star.
Britt Ekland (Actor) .. Willow MacGregor
Born: October 06, 1942 in Stockholm, Sweden
Best Known For: Her high-profile relationships.
Early-life: Born Britt-Marie Eklund on October 6, 1942, in Stockholm, Sweden. She describes her mother as a beautiful woman who lived for her children. Her father, she has claimed, was a womaniser. She attended drama school and joined a travelling theatre troupe in her teens. She left Sweden at the age of 19 after making a handful of Swedish movies and eventually became a star in Italian films before heading to England.
Career: Despite some decent film roles, Ekland became famous for being married to Peter Sellers, and appeared with him in After the Fox and The Bobo. She had a small but memorable role in 1971 cult classic Get Carter. Two years later, she made The Wicker Man, which remains one of her most popular movies. Her Bond girl role in 1974's The Man with the Golden Gun sealed her reputation as a sex symbol and won her a lifetime of publicity. Few of her roles since have been memorable. She began appearing in British pantos in 1992 and has written a warts-and-all autobiography. She appeared in the 10th series of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in 2010.
Quote: On her Bond character, Mary Goodnight: "It was one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done, but it did nothing for my career."
Trivia: In addition to Swedish, Ekland is fluent in English, French and German.
