Early-life:
Matthew Charles Berry was born in Bromham, Bedfordshire, on May 2, 1974 to Pauline and Charles. He has an older sister called Johanna. He claims he spent a lot of time visiting London as a child, and knew it was where he wanted to spend his life. Despite this, he studied contemporary art at Nottingham Trent University. He met Noel Fielding through a friend while still at university, and worked at the London Dungeon after graduating.
Career:
Berry's first taste of TV was in the late 1990s on video game magazine show Game Over on satellite computer and technology channel .tv. His first prominent TV role was playing Todd Rivers/Dr Lucien Sanchez in the Channel 4 comedy series Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and its spin-off Man to Man with Dean Learner. His other TV credits include The Mighty Boosch, Saxondale, The Peter Serafinowicz Show and The Sarah Silverman Program. He is best known for playing Douglas Reynholm in The IT Crowd. More recently, Berry has starred in Five Daughters, Toast of London and House of Fools. He is also an accomplished musician and has released several albums.
