Eric Knowles (Presenter)
Best Known For: His appearances on Antiques Roadshow.
Early-life: Eric was born in Nelson, Lancashire, in 1953, and in the 1970s worked both in engineering and for an antique shipping company. He inherited his love of antiques from his parents and joined the London auctioneers Bonhams in 1976 as a porter in the ceramics department. By 1981 he had become head of that department and was offered a full directorship in 1985.
Career: Eric has made numerous TV appearances in his capacity as an antiques expert, on programmes including Crimewatch UK, Selling the Family Silver, Going for a Song, The Great Antiques Hunt, The Antiques Inspectors, It's a Gift and You Can't Take It With You, as well as small appearances on shows like Jim Davidson's Generation Game, Countdown and the Jimmy Young Show on BBC Radio 2. However, he is perhaps best known for the Antiques Roadshow.
Quote: "I never ever recommend long term investments because in the antiques business there is no such thing as a sure investment. You'd probably have more luck asking Mystic Meg. All I can suggest is buy something for the love of it."
Trivia: He enjoys the music of Motown.
