Season 1976, Episode 1

Noel Edmonds presents an edition originally broadcast on May 6 1976 - the week in which Abba's Fernando finally reached the top of the chart, after spending three weeks at number two. Cliff Richard performs his future top 10 single Devil Woman, and Robin Sarstedt sings My Resistance Is Low - a record which would prove to be his only UK hit. Ruby Flipper, who replaced Pan's People as the show's house dancers, make their debut, and the programme also features performances by Sutherland Brothers & Quiver, the Rolling Stones, Tina Charles, Mac & Katie Kissoon, Fox, Frankie Valli, Mud and Barry Manilow

Noel Edmonds (Presenter)
Born: April 22, 1948 in Ilford, Essex
Best Known For: His return from the showbiz wilderness
Early-life: Born in Ilford, Essex, on April 22, 1948. He attended Brentwood Public School where he was a high achiever, gaining 10 O-Levels and three A-Levels. However, he decided not to go to university, instead trying his hand at radio. He joined Radio Luxembourg in 1968, before being snapped up by BBC Radio 1 the following year, initially to work in the sound trails department and occasionally cover shows.
Career: In 1970, Edmonds was handed his own slot on Radio 1, which led to a presenting role on Top of the Pops. After proving he had what it took to be a small-screen star, the BBC hired him to host Saturday morning kids programme Multi-Coloured Swap Shop, which ran from 1976 to 1982. He moved into prime-time TV with shows including Top Gear, Telly Addicts and The Noel Edmonds Late Late Breakfast Show, before launching Noel's House Party in 1991. It ran for eight years before losing viewers and being axed. He decided to take a break from broadcasting in 2000, but Channel 4's Deal or No Deal has resurrected his career. He found further success with the Sky One vehicle, Are You Smarter Than a 10-Year-Old?
Quote: "Gunging someone is not the most sophisticated form of entertainment."
Trivia: For many years, Edmonds has believed in the spiritual concept of cosmic ordering.
