Early-life: Born Patrick Archibald Shaw on September 12, 1938, in Oxford, he was one of three sons to a Welsh father and English mother. He later discovered he had three half-sisters from his dad's previous marriage. After training as a draughtsman, he caught the acting bug and honed his craft at Rada. Detective series Callan and Special Branch also boosted his profile.
