Early-life:
John was born in Burma on October 25, 1956 and brought up in Kenya until he was 12, when his family relocated to Edinburgh. His interest in acting started when he became a stage hand at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh. He returned to Kenya when he was 22 to star in a play at the Donovan Maule Theatre in Nairobi.
Career:
Michie went on to make guest appearances in a number of TV programmes, including Bulman, Rockliffe's Babies, Lovejoy, Ruth Rendall Mysteries, The Bill and Heartbeat. His acting breakthrough came in 1998 when he was cast as DI Ross on popular Scottish detective series Taggart, a role he played until the show was axed in 2010. Since then, he has had recurring roles in Coronation Street and Holby City.
