Old Hall House
Season 20, Episode 8

Alex Polizzi heads to the West Midlands to answer an SOS from 60-year-old entrepreneur Stephen. His once-beloved family home, a 500-year-old farmhouse, is now a 10-bedroom hotel that is limping along at just 23 per cent occupancy, and he's struggling to understand why. Poor signage, no blinds in her room, and a lack of privacy are just some of the issues Alex addresses

Born: August 28, 1971
Best Known For: Fronting The Hotel Inspector.
Early-life: Born Alessandra Maria-Luigia O Polizzi Di Sorrentino in England on August 28, 1971. She comes from a long line of hoteliers - her grandfather is none other than Lord Forte. Her mother, the Hon Olga Polizzi, is Lord Forte's daughter and works as a hotel designer; she is also the sister of Sir Rocco Forte. Alex's father was the Italian marquess Count Alessandro Polizzi, who died in a car accident in 1980.
Career: After reading English at Oxford, Polizzi trained at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong, and worked for Marco Pierre White before taking a job with The Rocco Forte Collection's businesses in Cardiff, Rome and St Petersburg. Her relationship with baker Marcus Miller led her to help him found a wholesale bakery which supplies bread to Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Fortnum & Mason. She manages the Hotel Endsleigh in Milton Abbot, near Tavistock in Devon, which is owned by her mother. Polizzi was an instant hit when she took over from Ruth Watson as Channel 5's Hotel Inspector and was eventually poached by the BBC to present various series, including The Fixer, which focuses on failing family businesses. More recently, she has presented Alex Polizzi's Secret Italy and Spectacular Spain with Alex Polizzi.
Quote: "Joining a family business is fraught with challenges and rewards; I have always regarded the opportunity as a privilege, not a right."
Trivia: In 2010, she published a hotel guide, Alex Polizzi's Little Black Book of Hotels.
